Rumour has it that there is some sort of boat service between either Abu Dhabi or Dubai and Italy! I've scoured the Internet but come up with nothing. Does anybody know if this service exists? I'm primarily interested because I'd like to take my car with me when/if I leave for good. I'd be most grateful for any information.

There are two Italian cruise ships currently sailing in the Gulf and visiting Dubai, Abu Dhabi, bahrain, Muscat. I've never heard of a passenger ship sailing regularly between UAE and Italy.

I'm unclear as to whether it's a passenger vessel or a cargo vessel which may or may not accept the odd passenger, but thanks anyway for responding. I dare say my chances aren't great for booking my car's passage on a cruise liner Very Happy .

There is a cargo service from Jeddah which will take passengers. Why not from Dubai ? I can't remember the name of the Italian company. A big one based in Genoa.

well - I'm not an expert ---- but maybe it has something to do with geography?

I'd imagine it's a little easier when you're on the Red Sea.

A cruise ship is not what he wants. He wants a ship that will take him and his car. So a cargo ship ! It may come as a surprise to many but Dubai is actually a commercial port with container ships coming and going on a daily basis !

Heavens yes... every shady business in the world is laundering their products through the Dubai Free Zone.

Takahiwai, I'd suggest wandering over to a few of the shipping companies and see what you can learn. Some of the smaller companies may be more willing to look at unusual requests like this. Quite a few people put their car into a container when they leave and have it shipped home. So, that shouldn't be a problem. Whether you can find a ship that will let you got with it... who knows?

I had my car shipped to Dubai and back to Houston on a Roro (roll on, roll off) car carrier.

Hmm! It does seem as though it would be a pretty roundabout voyage. I detest flying so much though, that I'll consider just about anything to avoid it Laughing
Scot47, thanks for the information re. Jeddah. It's a shame that, being female, I would be unable to drive myself there. Perhaps I could hire someone to do the driving, but I'm sure there'd be complications there. I think my best bet is to look into shipping companies in Dubai as VS suggested, and hope that there are some possibilities there.
Many thanks to all for the advice offered.
