This is all I know. How much are they offering per month? Ask them about housing, benefits, and most importantly ask to talk to current or former teachers. |

Do a search. I've posted on the conditions of the city before. I also was offered a position at this school in 2006. I had visited Honduras prior to applying and briefly stayed in Puerto Cortes before sojourning along to better spots on the north coast.
My general impression of the school through my correspondence was that it was likely another poorly run and poorly funded institution typical of Honduras on the whole. Nice enough people, but desperate written all over their repsonses. Also beware that religious elements are in full play and emphasized in the teaching curriculum so if you are not Christian, be forewarned.
In regards to the city itself: Small, dirty, hot, down on its luck port city. From my brief reading of Honduran periodicals, the gov. has attempted to funnel more money to brighten the city so it may have improved since my visit. Tourism is booming in nearby Tela, which is much more attractive, but hence no ESL schools. Not hit overly hard by Hurricane Mitch in 98'(many coastal cities still rebuilding nine years later) but appeared to be a difficult city to live in nonetheless.
If you are interested in Honduras, try San Pedro Sula(modern) or Tegucigalpa(more appealing visually). Recall that very few schools are run well in Honduras and that most that do have good mgmt. accept only non-paid volunteers, many provided through cross cultural college programs in the U.S.
Good luck and let us know how it shakes out for you. |
