Okay everyone. Being relatively new to the island, I am seeking people in the travel industry who can set me up with a inexpensive Chinese New Year holiday away from Taiwan.
For example: Four days/five nights in Thailand, flight and hotel included. Or perhaps there is a secret destination for Taiwan teachers?
At any rate, it is always nice to start early . |

you will not get a cheap ticket to Thailand during the Chinese New Year. However once you get there you can travel cheaply etc. It is both tourist peak season to Thailand and travel agents in Taiwan generally ask for higher prices during Chinese New Year. I paid 15,000 NT for a return flight during last Chinese New Year period. |

Matchstick man is right. Everything is double the price (or just about) and if you stay here, you will be stuck in traffic everywhere you go. If you have the bucks, you can fly direct to Phuket, Thailand and then continue on to a smaller island like Koh Phi Phi or Koh Racha Yai....nice quiet places....PM me for further info. |

imagine if everyone back home had but one week of vacation per year...at the same time. even in the warmest of summer and a good many folks opting for the country, things would still be bad, right?
such is what hapens to taiwan, but when the weather is usually the pits. hualien will be gridlocked like the worst of taipei. the coast road will be bedlam as idiots try to jump the queue and tear down the shoulder until they hit something. hotels are long past booked up. school sports fields doulbe as ersatz camp grounds. taroko will have every horizontal surface covered with family tents.
your best bet is the PI. call your travel agent ASAP. PI doesn't do Chinese New Year(much).
a few years back i was in guangzhou for chinese new year. good god...outside the trainstation was a sea of black hair waiting to go anywhere else. |

I went to Taipei and it was comparatively empty. If you don't live there and have never been there Taipei is a goodplace to gofor Chinese New Year. |
