| Let's stamp out statements, that as far as I know, are incorrect. The point being, that only Lesser Bairam is an actual SAFEA "legal holiday." |

| The Muslim festival was Id ul Adha (best I can do in roman alphabet!) which is the last day of the pilgrimage (Hajj) to Makkah. |

Yes... That is Greater Bairam (Eid Al-Adh'ha) which is not a legal SAFEA provided holiday as you stated. It is only Lesser Bairam which is a "guaranteed" SEFEA contractual holiday.
Of course, schools can provide any other days that they wish as days off. |

| lesser, greater or medium bairam in inconsequential. if anyone has bairam in their contract as a holiday, no chinese FAO is going to have a clue which one you're taking. |

| Oh my god - the whole point is that the claim of something being a legally contractually provided holiday was factually incorrect. Dave's has seemingly become the wikipedia of ESL. |

Which Muslim holiday is it you are mentioning?

Eid Al Adha - Feast of the Sacrifice. It actually started on Wednesday in some places, but it depends on the sighting of the moon.
Note to self - read the whole thread before responding. |

Every contract I've signed contains a clause that says the FT would get Christmas off.
The good thing about teaching in colleges and universities is that my exams are usually finished before Christmas, so there is no need to make up those lessons after Christmas. |

| To be in-line with the law the contract should be clear that you get 2 days off for Christmas ... otherwise you're only losing out. |
