				| I have just paid $675 for a complete physical at the American Hospital of Dubai (in preparation for my new job in a certain country outside the Middle East). My company--an oil co.--will reimburse.
I worked for Raytheon and then the Inst. for Public Admin in Saudi and got both physicals in the States but didn't have to pay for the Raytheon one. And for the second (IPA) physical, I went to my private doc in New Jersey who said most of it was nonsense and so he signed off on most of the stuff for me and just did a routine exam plus a blood test and that was about $75 (in 1994).

				| Burqa Babe - you got frozen out because the money ran out! They made great promises followed by excuses (reasons?) that were just as great for why they weren't forthcoming! Consider yourself saved  . | |

				| I heard it was 150. Can't imagine how they'd manage even 50 given so many still don't have their passports/visas organized from the start of the last term. They don't have the HR staff to ensure monthly pays are received on time now. And how could they when their staff keep walking? | |

They don't? Who is "they"? Again, you know two things: jack and shyte. You might want to get your info. from someone who didn't bail during the first month. But keep on yappin'.

#1 - You don't speak with any knowledge at all. So, if you continue to post about "facts" then, if I were you, I would check my source of information. Not everyone has bailed...not even close. Why not check with someone who is still in the program? Have people bailed? Yes, but for a myriad of reasons including not passing security checks, alleged drinking on the job and the infamous Sharjah "dance" video.

#2 - HCT does the HR function of Alghad. Needless to say, it was shoddy at first simply because of the large numbers of people involved and the very short time that was given to get the program in order. It is my understanding most HR issues are resolved and everyone that I know in Alghad have had no problems with pay or benefits, although there were a few horror stories out there.

As is so common with TEFLers, rumor and innuendo always have more credibility than the actual facts. Nothing says TEFLer like bad-mouthing something you know nothing about.

 Hope that wasn't too abusive.

				| If you two keep sniping, you will just get this thread locked, so let's keep to the situation with this program and not with each other. There is a PM function if you want to debate.
Wannago... thank you. That is what is needed is the 'facts' as you know them. A vast improvement over merely insulting the other posters. For someone weeding through the details trying to decide if they dare apply, what is needed is information on past problems, but most important, are they being addressed with some hope of improvement.

Like all new programs, the first years are usually chaotic. I believe that this program is crucial for the UAE education system, so... is there hope that things are moving in the right direction?

				| The dance video?! Combine drunkeness with dancing in a Sharjah classroom. It was in all the newspapers - the kids recorded the 'entertainment' on their mobiles. 2 landed in jail and a third was in B-I-G trouble.

HCT does the HR function of Alghad only if and when the work is passed on to them. It continues to be 'shoddy' because people did not have their Visas organized and consequently do not yet have their Passports back. Too bad for those who wanted to travel for the Holiday Season. As I said previously, monthly pays are still an issue, i.e., people don't get paid for up to 2 - 3 weeks after they should have been.

Many employed by HCT to work on the Alghad HR matters have come and gone - low pay and incompetency have been the reasons.

wannago is believing all that's said by those at the top who seek to 'deflame', but the facts remain - people have not received the promises made to them and I don't mean the realities they were made aware of at interview stage.

 | Do you have a link for this? Was it just teachers or students too? Amazing stuff... too bad the video didn't get on Youtube.

When I was at HCT, the young women would often have birthday parties and dance... and the teachers that could might join in a bit, but mostly we just let them have their fun. Of course, the doors were closed and the window would be covered, so it was all females... and not a big deal.

 Google says this.

I admit to knowing nothing about this except what is presented in the article, but it does seem like there's a pertinent detail missing from the story.
