Despite being feminist on occasion (whatever that means) I still see less and less females posting. Male opinion rules and some women even get scared off. If we can't have strong, equal females then who can?
Ya sports are great but shall we go on about make up? Actually I hardly wear any these days. Why can't women make any headway? Why do so many men want docile women and too many women are stalked if they assert their will? Men-can you be equal or will you forever be threatened by equal females? And why? |

Is this a new thing? I think there was a poll some time ago checking gender (or ws it only ages?) - were there more fellas here than women?
There is probably a statitical equation that only x number of y/z gender post, with other factors based on distance from major city and combined with number of friends.
.33yx = dc *#f
.66zx = dc *#f
Would this result in the more gregarious women seeing people face to face and therefore not posting (which leaves the alternative proposition that it is the lonely blokes who post - sorry guys)
Could this be linked to your next thread - bullies, in that most of the flamers (bullies) are fellas posting from safety? From my experiences with secondary students, there were more male bullies. Although the female bitchiness, rumour mongering and exclusion processes were equally devasting. |

I hadn't picked up on this...of course, I never know the sex of the poster half of the time (it is hard to pick up on this based on the ambiguity of user names).

I thought it was the other way around

I would argue that most men accept women as equals. I cannot definitively speak for those men that do not, but I am sure it has a lot to do with their upbringing, environment, culture, media influence, etc. |

Yeah, I'd love to have a nice little pet boy on a leash! (Just kidding!!)
I agree with james t kirk's comment on equality. I have been lucky so far in my life to have met men whose upbringing, environment, etc. made them value women as intelligent, capable beings. And I have to have faith (blind faith? shattered by reality?) that the sort of guy who would pack up and join this crazy field of ours must have had some sort of liberal upbringing--enough so to instill a sense of adventure and appreciation for different ways of life. Not that such an upbringing necessarily leads to equality in relationships, though...

Hi Nomadder
By the way I love your advatar. I post on another forum and I feel a lot better around the guys. I am not combative unless pushed into a corner and the guys make me feel so comfortable that I express myself freely.
If I don't like something I walk away thats what I learned not only in Shaolin ( many years ago) but in life.
I wear makeup and buy nice clothes I have found this great shop that has western fittings. I think the boss thinks I have a boyfriend because suddenly I am looking so smart. Some of the comments in the past weren't worth commenting on, I enjoyed Jens posts she reminded me of why I left Australia, she was brilliant. People that come here and believe all the bullshit, the attention being shown too them as real are a bit sad really. Keep it in perspective.
keep in touch darling

It's always been in the back of my mind that guys tend to post here more often. I think most, if not all, of the top 10 posters to this site are confirmed males. But I haven't noticed any change.
Flame wars et al are a fact of life on open internet discussion forums. This site is not the worst I have seen in this regard.

Interesting point. The top 10 posters are restricted to 2 countries: China and Saudi Arabia (and heavan, as Binx is no longer with us.) I think that it's a combination of being bored, lonely, and wanting interaction with people who better understand how we think.
Nothing is known about this field. It would be interesting to see the male:female ratio of EFL/ESL teachers in the world.
Edit: Binx's account is #11, and Johnslat is in the US now. But many of his posts were made while he was living in Saudi Arabia, and that was my point. |

Dear Wolf,
True, I'm in the USA now. But once you get hooked on this site, well, it's hard to quit - or even to cut down. You develop "long-distance relationships" with people that you have never met, in most cases, but whom you still think of as friends. It's also true that a lot of my posting from Saudi Arabia was due to my being "being bored, lonely, and wanting interaction with people who better understand how we think". Now that I'm in the States, however, I'm almost never bored and lonely, but I still want that "interaction".
Regards,
John |

If the avatars are anything to go by then I think the girl/boy issue doesn't really exist - a large variety of the animal kingdom appears to post on Dave's! |

There's nothing wrong with being a feminist, depending of course on how we define this highly subjective label. It would appear that there are several strong, smart, opinionated females on this and other threads. I would certainly consider them (and myself) to be feminists. |

Maybe men like to chat more than women contrary to what we once believed. |

Hey all,
I'm a girl, despite most people thinking otherwise because of my name. I post, but not all that often because honestly, there are just too many other things for me to be doing. Oh, and internet is rather expensive in Poland.
Other things... Most of the "native speaker" guys in Poland go there because they can't stand their womenfolk back home. Polish women tend to be more beautiful and more "domesticated" than Western women. But as Biff found out the hard way (and several other British/US/etc men I know) being married to a Polish woman isn't all it's cracked up to be. I guess what happens between the sheets can be enough for a relationship for only a few years.
Thank GOD I'm moving on to Germany in a month! Living in Poland has done nothing good to my self-esteem.. |

Oh, BTW, what happened to Bnix? I must have missed his passing away. When and what happened? I used to see him on the Poland forum and we actually agreed many times.. Hmmm... |

Binx (RIP) went to the Great EFL Classroom in the Sky some time ago.
I have frequent premonitions that I will be joining him some day soon.
Inshallah these are only superstitious delusions, but the recent diagnosis of Ischemic Heart Disease has not reassured me. |
