I'm looking for comment on the Vietnamese American Vocational Technical Colleges. I've seen a recent ad which states $12-25 USD as a wage although their website lists only $12-20 as the range. They also say they have 16 sites in HCMC and 12 other sites around Vietnam with 18,000 students?? How come I haven't seen them advertising before???
Anyone have any knowledge of any VATC campuses???
Thanks! |

I worked at VATC for 3 years and although I was well treated it seems the school has gone down in quality. They do in fact have 16 campuses and rarely advertise but have an in house recruiter, mainly Australians. They are one of the lower paying schools and you are expected to work weekends (children's classes) and evenings (5:30-7:30 / 7:30 - 9:30). The Corporate Training Centre (CTC) program pays more than the regular school classes but involve travelling, tailoring courses to meet the company's requirements and finding suitable supplementry materials to suit the clients. I would be very surprised to know anyone there who is making $20/hour - last year the ceilng was around $16 for qualified teachers. My only advice to you would be not to sign a one year contract until you've tested the waters, maybe work without a contract (yes, it can be done) or take a 3 month contract b/d it's hellish hard to get out of the contract - threats of deportation, work permit and/or visa cancellation.
There are loads of schools in HCMC to choose from so maybe a short contract with VATC and a good look aroudn while you're working there to see what else is out there.
Good luck! |

True. I've never met anyone making $20 per hour. VATC is one of the lowest paying schools.

I would never work under a contract here. It does not good. Especially a one year contract. There are no benefits to it.

This school has been blacklisted for at least 2 years because of these threats against teachers.
We should also remember the VATC scheme of stealing teachers' pay by illegal back taxing. Go to saigonesl.com and do a searh on VATC illegally taxing teachers, and then threatening any teacher that challenged it. Good o'l Sir Ray. Thank god he's gone.
There are better schools to work at.
