With regards to unis they ask their own staff to undertake any summer classes. However part-time classes can be picked up at both private and national unis throughout the year. But you'll have to go through a pretty rigorous interview to get through. For example, I was interviewed at a national uni in Taipei and was asked to give a 5 minute presentation on TEFL, at the end of which a bell rang and I was whisked out to an interview room to be interrogated by a panel of 7!

With regards to bushibans, I can't really add too much accurate information as there will be posters at this site who know a lot more about it.

Generally speaking short term work in Taiwan equates to illegal work so be aware of this from the outset.

In order to get a work permit for you your employer will need to show a signed employment contract for at least 12 months duration. Some schools fudge this with phoney contracts etc, but that is for contract terms of six months and up generally.

If you are looking for work for a month or so then probably no school would bother even applying for a work permit for you and would instead have you teach on a visitors visa which is illegal. So watch your back.
