Well I had my meeting with the principal today. They have used the 30day absence clause and therefore the contract has been terminated(as I suspected).
They have offered to pay my ticket home plus an extra 1000 and my pay for the weeks holiday at the beginning of October.
I think this was quite a good result as I only worked for them for 2 months. And as many of you are aware, despite the so-called laws and regulations, many employers will not abide by them.
They have given me the option of the money or ticket. But It's time for me to leave china, so I will be going. They however suggested in a week (I'm still in their apartment) I was thinking more like 2 weeks but I can see their point, they're paying for it.
But I can make more money to take back by continuing with my private students for another week. They are obliged to give some notice.
It was interesting how she brought up the 'events beyond control clause' this could be interpreted in a number of ways. Many of which could have left me high and dry, so I was a little surprised. But the way they see it is nobody is to blame here so, perhaps we will part on good terms which is always the best way I believe.
Anyway, I just thought I'd keep anyone interested up to date, and thanks for all the replies. |

A good result considering you indicate you arrived in China with a heart condition.
The prospect of complications or worse must be very worrying and you are certainly very brave to even consider staying there for another two weeks AND put yourself through the stress of continuing to take private lessons until the very end. |

Cardiovascular Disease Statistics
http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=4478
Estimates for the year 2004 are that 79,400,000 Americans have one or more forms of cardiovascular disease (CVD).
High blood pressure 72,000,000.
Claimed 871,500 lives in 2004 (36.3 percent of all deaths or 1 of every 2.8 deaths).
....................................................................................................
All that was needed was a change in diet:
"My blood pressure has returned to normal-ish 140/90 last i checked. But, my contract has been terminated now," |

Hi James - I just started posting here. i know nothing about China but have lived in Asia for 15 years. I willlet others address your contract issues but will say that since the thread was opened its been months and you havent stroked out and since you are so worrued about returning, id just finish unless that is still months away.
Changing your diet can help a great deal or very little. What I can tell you is that the things that you will cut out will be better for you in the long run anyway: processed food, salt, fish sauce, msg. learn to say "no msg""little fish sauce/salt". Stay away from fried food and especially tropical oils. Next, add good things to your diet. I love Thai food but have done away with 2 of the 3 meals I normally eat due to salts. I dont know if you can find it but oatmeal is great in the a.m. with fruit and aftenoon a piece of bread and a green salad followed by fruit salad. this of course assumes the veggies are clean enough to eat raw.
Do you drink? cut back to one 750mi beer 9you cant get spirits in china really) a day. DO YOU SMOKE cut taht out immediately.
Are you overweight? Find out what your BMI should be and get there ASAP!
Finally, get a doctor to perscribe cheap medicine. I am on enalipril 20mg and was able to bring my BP into line with one simple cheap medicine. I should excercise more (walk only 2-5km a day). Cardio REALLY helps lower BP.
Your numbers are excessive and you are at high risk (honestly) and you should act - but the measures above will get you thru the year.
140/90 IS NOT NORMAL AT ALL!! <120/<80 is what doctors are looking for now.
chok dee!
sorry for misspellings, broken keyboard. |
