Hello,
Thanks for all of your help on my previous post. I have one more question.
Whats the situation with medical and dental care in Taiwan, insurance, cost without insurance etc. My g-friend has a janky tooth, and we want to know if its a good idea to spend the crazy US money to fix it, or if it is advisable to wait until we are in Taiwan (in a week)
Thanks to all,
have an awesome day, even if it is tomorrow to me, (?)
yero. |

Hi. Dental care in Taiwan is covered under the mandatory national health insurance here, something you will get soon after you are employed. Once you get that, a basic dentist visit will run about 200 nt. Supplies are usually extra. A basic root canal, without crown, is probably well under 100 US. Costs are likely much, much lower than where you are. Without insurance, your basic visitation fee will be higher, but not substantially so.
If cost is an issue, and the work your gf needs isn't critical, I'd say wait until you get here. |

| I'd heard that quality of care was significantly poorer. I probably have a cavity, and would rather save the money by waiting. Opinions on the quality? |

I've had very good work done here. Both the dentists I've been to were extremely gentle and efficient. Both were educated in the US and speak English. Ask around and get recommendations. |

I know several people who have had significant dental work done there and are very happy. The cost was fractional compared to Canada. I also know people who have spent time in the hospitals. One friend recently was in a life threatening scooter accident, and by all accounts from the people around him his care was superb.
An added bonus is that the health care system in Taiwan is extremely efficient, a crowded waiting room means nothing because there is usually plenty of doctors and nurses working. Every doctor I saw spoke passable coherent English. |
