Well Ive just looked at the Chinese income tax rates for the first time ever, and it seems I would be getting taxed 20%. So thats down to 6400 per month to pay for everything. It looks like for a half decent flat Id need to pay at least 2000. Oh dear...

Ok Ive just rejected the offer and decided outright that teaching English is not what I need to be doing right now.

Its all part of a research thing associated with Harvard. Its actually an international school for upper/middle class families claiming to have children from around 20 different countries (only around 30% chinese apparently), with 50% lessons in Chinese, 50% lessons in English, so the Children grow up learning both languages (in addition to native languages) in the most natural way. They were gonna sign me up to an online course on the multiple intelligences concept as part of the contract.

So as I said, the school seems highly legitimate, with enough credibility to look good on a CV in any western country. But I had too many doubts for an 18 month contract. I hope I dont regret it.

If you wanna apply knock yourself out. If you have decent experience you'll probably get offered more money. I know my small offer was based on lack of experience (of which I have none), but I also know the main hiring criteria was enthusiasm (of which I had plenty). But Im sure they have other applicants who they'll turn to almost immediately.
