Do your young family a favour and don't bring them here. Social isolation, pollution, dirty environments, crowding, noise, dangerous traffic, the list goes on.
To answer your question directly, you most likely could get by--just get by-- on one teacher's salary supporting your wife and infant child. Savings? I couldn't see them being significant.
Taiwan is not where you want to be bringing an infant. |

sadiebear, Unfortunately, TaoyuanSteve is probably correct that you wouldn't be able to save much.
If we look at some figures that have been tossed around on this board in other posts: a single person earning 60-65,000NTD can save about $1000US/month. Of that, you'll be paying for a larger apartment, more food and baby supplies.
I disagree, however, that Taiwan is an unfit place to raise a child. Medical care is very good and cheap. Pollution may not be any worse than it is in the city you're leaving. Western baby food is available. Big cities anywhere are noisy and crowded. The traffic is bad, the traffic is dangerous, do not let your baby play in it, or have his/her own scooter. Social isolation?! Come to Hsinchu, there will be lots of opportunity to meet other foreigners and Taiwanese that speak English.
Good luck,
Cat |
