You missed the most important part in your above sentence!
Kullu Aim wa Intha = Each year and you .....
You should have said: 'Kullu Aam Wat Intha Be Khair = Wish you a happy year, or Each year I wish you a happy life and prosperity.
BTW, the above sentence is not an Egyptian Colloquial Arabic, it is a classic Arabic (Fushah).
Happy new year. |

The Egyptian colloquial would be
kulli sana winta tayyib or kulli sana winti tayyiba (to a woman)
... which is the phrase that is good for every occasion... it can be happy birthday, happy ramadhan, merry christmas, happy new year, happy eid...
The distinguished little old man that sold newspapers on the corner near my university would greet me with this phrase every day, so it can also mean 'hello.'

Dear lall,
Thank you so much for your posting. My knowledge of Arabic (colloquial or otherwise) is, I'm rather ashamed to admit, FAR less extensive than 007's and veiledsentiments' is, but I want to let you know that I really appreciate your kind words.
However, I very much doubt that my previous posts were error-free (although I'll happily go along with the "very mature" - well, I AM a geezer, after all - and "lucid" - I still am, most of the time, anyway, even if I seem to keep misplacing keys, glasses, etc.)
May you have a truly great 2008.
Regards,
John |

Dear scot47,
Say it not, mortal. Otherwise I shall come to claim your shriveled soul - if, that is, I can talk the KFUPM Personnel Department into relinquishing it.

may GOD catch him and jail him in the God's kingdom.

Dear 007,
Ah, if only the BIG SATAN'S location could be so precisely determined. I am afraid, however, that he can be found within almost all of us, all over the globe.
It's not only the Kingdom of God that is within.
Regards,
John |
