I've just been watching the news and they(Sky News) are telling us us who are receiving an OBE, MBE, etc
It seems that anyone can get one nowadays. Nicholas Parsons and Chris Tarrant for example. It got me thinking. Has a TEFL teacher ever received one? Am I correct in believing that subjects of HRH QEII can nominate ? If so I nominate Scott47. Anyone got the address for Buck Palace?

I am pleased to say that I have no fucking idea what an OBE or MBE symbolises - and am equally glad to report that if a smug cunt like Chris Tarrant gets one that it is inherently invalid. Sod it I'm pissed and will probably delete this tomorrow. Wink

Ah but dmb dont forget the correct verb of reporting;

"Leeroy regretted saying...."

or with an adverb;

"Leeroy allegedly said..."

and for tomorrow;

"Leeroy denies saying..."

leeroy..shame on you, you being part of the glorious British Empire and all.

Even as an American i know that (I think) the OBE is the Order of the British Empire, and lets you be called SIR LEEROY. I think you still have to pay taxes, though.

And please, anyone who is anyone must have them. They have now become like the stars that actors get on the sidewalk on the Hollywood Boulevard.

Mick Jagger got one, though Keith Richards turned it down. David Bowie also is turning his down this year, I've heard

I will asume the MBE is similar. Maybe if you get drunk, partake in some riots, and get some of your fans killed, or encourage them to take drugs, etc...maybe if you get off your duff, and start doing some of these things, you might be nominated someday. Probably help if you avow to bisexuality, spit on some police officers, and get arrested a couple of times. Just some suggestions. Maybe some other posters will have better ideas on how best to snag an OBE

Sorry leeroy, going to the pub to chat with the students just ain't going to swing it, dude. Twisted Evil

Neither an OBE nor an MBE gives you the right to be called Sir; for that you need a baronetcy or a Knight Commander of the British Empire, as has just been given to Tim Berners-Lee.

CBE's, OBE's and MBE's are fairly low down in the pecking order. Even knighthoods have their own hierarchy, and there is many a career civil servant or diplomat who feels suicidally humiliated because he was given the wrong kind of knighthood.

The two most prestigious awards, apart from earldoms or dukedoms which are rarely doled out except to new entrants to the Royal Family, neither allow you to be called anything. They are the OM. Order of Merit, and CH(?) Companion of Honour.

You write with your nomination to Her Britannic Majesty at Buckingham Palace. Don't forget to include why I should become OBE.
