The Future Perfect Continuous does seem the appropriate tense for the Gulf. I think it's the official tense for the Kuwaiti administration.

"When you leave we will have been sitting on your application for your official document for nine months so save up for the fine now."

Telephone interviewing seems to me a pretty inefficient way of judging a potential candidate, anyway. Like people who are camera-shy, there are people, as the original poster said, who don't handle telephone communication well. And after all, who teaches classes over the telephone?

Two months to go to TESOL Arabia.

My membership dues were paid for 2008 but as things go, the membership card did not arrive and neither did any info.

I now have no information from TESOL Arabia. I'm sure the local mail screwed up and misplaced mail yet once again as my colleague received his one month ago. I paid for both of ours with my credit card so ..blah, blah, blah..... Evil or Very Mad

Anyway,

My interest in this conference is mostly the job fair.

Is there anything I need to enrol in or register for before I fly there from East Asia?

Any suggestions on preparation? I've already thought about bringing 30 resumes, a pressed white shirt and tie, and I'm getting my teeth cleaned for the recruiters.

Regards,

Mytrunkshow

First off, I would go to their website: http://tesolarabia.org/index.php (which is what I just did)

Likely all of your questions can be answered there. There is an email address for membership, so you can confirm that you are showing even if your card got waylaid.

If you have not registered for the conference already, you can register when you arrive. It is an extra 50 DHs for the job fair. I doubt that you will need so many CVs (as they are called in the Gulf). Ten should be more than sufficient and if you need more, they will have copying facilities available.

I faxed a membership renewal to TESOL Arabia in mid-October, the money was taken out of my account in mid-November. In mid-December, I wanted to pay for the Conference so I called the office and they gave me my membership number and a very feeble excuse that all membership cards were to be posted together after Christmas. Christmas mail causes huge problems in Dubai, of course! I still don't have a membership card or a receipt for the Conference payment. This also happened two years ago and I had to pay everything in cash on the day as they would not accept credit card payments.

I had similar problems w/ the conference a few years ago. They had proof of my application to the group, as well as some email indicating what I wanted, yet they never charged me. In the end, they allowed me to pay onsite the early bird registration. If you have proof that you paid and when you paid, they're pretty accommodating.

I also paid only the Earlybird fee but as it is a fairly large conference administrative inefficiency doesn't give a very good impression out of the region.

Sounds good. I had paid for the membership by credit card in October. I also paid for my colleagues with the same credit card. His membership arrived 6 weeks ago here in Taiwan. Could be the @#!@ mail problem here in East Asia. (So far lost by Asian postal services - new winter coat, all my degree/transcripts/CELTA docs. + at least two letters of which I am aware.)

I'll just show up with the credit card statement showing the transaction.

Did I once come across a posting saying that some seminars or talks needed to be booked in advance? I'd be pretty sad to arrive there unprepared.
