Hello,
I am thinking about moving to Thailand in Aug take my TEFL and then look for a job in Sept. I heard the school year starts in Oct so that was going to be my timeline however.... a few things have come up in Aug for me and I was wondering, if I move over there a few moths later is it going to be hard for me to find a job. I know that at the end of the term is not a good time to find something but does a few months make a huge difference???

thanks

If you are referring to Thai government schools, i.e., primary and secondary schools, the school year actually starts in mid-May. The month of October is the midterm, meaning schools are closed for the month, and resume again in November. This is, at least, the schedule at the secondary school I teach at here in BKK other school schedules may vary. I am guessing most schools like to do the bulk of their hiring prior to the start of the school year in May. However, there will always be schools hiring year-round to replace teachers who have come and gone. My school is still looking for a new teacher to finish off the remainder of the year. And then there are always private schools which hire year-round.

Thanks for the reply...

So if they are on break are they looking for people in October then or in November when people come back to classes! Sorry for all the questions I am just trying to figure out when I should head over there. I mean I guess if they weren't looking for people over there I could always do some travelling and then come back.

Also is there a strong english teaching community in Bangkok? I have heard of other places to teach in which there are flyers around the city for different activities for people to meet one another.

thanks
