Does ZU provide actual accommodation or is it an allowance? If the latter, does anyone know how much? Does this apply to operations in AUH and DXB?

ZU provides accomodations to all employees based on faculty grade and family size in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai. There is also an option of taking cash in lieu, but with the current housing market and rental fees climbing, you are better to take the housing provided. Information about exact amounts for the housing allowances can be obtained from the HR department during the recruitment process -- again, depends on faculty grade and family size.

ZU has various flats and villas in Abu Dhabi and Dubai throughout the cities that are rented on long term contracts, so housing will be available as employees come and go.

Thanks hereandnow! I was reading ZU's website about bringing in pets.

Quote:
If you are on a Term Contract, you might not be able to bring pets with you as you will be housed in furnished accommodation which may not allow pets.

Should I understand term contract to be a short term assignment? Does this mean that everyone else who is generally hired for a 3 year contract seeks out their own furniture?

The three year contracts mean an unfurnished apartment. You will get a furniture allowance of around 30,000 Dhs within the first week to use towards furnishing your apartment. It more than covers what you need (unless of course you have elaborate tastes). The short term contract usually are for a year or less.

Thanks, herenow. How long do people normally stay in hotels before moving into their own accommodation?

It used to be you got a week in the luxury of a hotel. You got your apartment keys though by day 1 or 2 and then had the extra time to spend getting the apartment ready before moving out of your hotel. BUT... with the current housing crunch and an increase in the number of faculty coming in January to work at the new miltary college outside of Abu Dhabi you may have a bit of an extended hotel stay until housing is located if you are going to Abu Dhabi. Check with the HR department about how long it will be before you can actually move into your more permanent housing.
