Hey, everyone. Not to be a nit-picker (and of course that is just a preface to the nit-picking), but the outgoing PM's name is spelled:
C-H-R-E-T-I-E-N
Just noticing that four people have misspelled it so far.

Two are Americans, though, so that's excusable. What would be inexcusable would be if the Americans didn't know how to spell George W. Bursh's name.

Wo? [touching nose and pointing at self] Embarassed

I'd rather you be a nit picker than a nose picker or a butt picker.

Dear Steiner,
If you were all three at the same time, I'd have to admire your sinister dexterity.
Regards,
John

Ouch! What's with the red? Shocked

I graduated in Canada with a Bachelors degree and no student debts. And no, I'm not rich; my parents are housepainters. I worked my way through college and didn't bother with any students loans.

One of my English co-workers complains often about the debts she gained while studying.

So much for the "Euro way"... Rolling Eyes

It looks like Mr. Martin is already cozying up to Mr. Bush. This makes me a little uneasy.

Does anyone really have a choice in the matter? Be afraid, be very afraid if Bush and co. should turn their wrath on you. Even Blair and the blokes wouldn't have a prayer if the Americans wanted a piece of them. That's the scary thing about the US. If this were my game of risk I'd say all of Europe should ally with Canada, Australia and any other country they can talk in to it. God forbid one of those Columbine types comes to the helm one day.

Martin is alienating a lot of people within the Liberal party right now. I'm not super-connected but one guy told me he is a one-timer. The same core of people who helped him push Jean out are also going to make sure he goes after one term. Manley didn't take the ambassador job just so he could stay around and build up a team for the election after next.

Either way, I think Martin is a bit of a boot licker.

honestly, i follow politics here in taiwan more than "back home",
but then i followed politics more in costa rica when i lived there.
don't know who said it but "all politics is local" - well that's how i remember it.
my one contribution is that at least Martin is a businessman,
and with a good start from daddy, successful,
not a (explitive retained) lawyer.
"the little guy from shawinigan" is about as authietic as g.w.bush
as "the texas ranger".
my recollection is that "the jaw that walks like a man" is on the
board of directors of so many companies that if the private jets
were comercial flyers he couldn't live long enough to spend the
frequent flyer credits.
