Were you a bad boy and posted a job ad Duffy? Shocked

Are they actually hiring English teachers direct? Most of their agents post ads on this regularly. But, I haven't seen the Ministry advertise for quite a long time. (years?)

Hi VS,

YES!

The ministry are recruiting direct for the disciplines I mentioned in my post.

They are desperate, yet are wary, mentioning to me personally that Degree Mill diplomas are "totally unacceptable". All applicants who forward copies of diplomas will have them checked as a matter of course.

But, by English positions, do they mean EFL in the foundations programs or in upper level classes.

Both, VS. The Applied Sciences Colleges still have a few year 3 education majors who need to complete upper level coursework and practicums. Rustaq continues as an Education College, and will train English majors in upper level courses.

Interesting to note, though, is that the positions opening with MOHE are upper level English courses in disguise, as lecturers in journalism, hospitality management, international business, etc., will have their hands full with English lessons mingled into their coursework.

That is rather SOP in the Gulf - and especially in Oman - as students are passed up to academic courses normally at about a 400 level on the TOEFL - with a few exceptions, of course.

And that will continue until they improve English teaching in the schools. A year in Foundations English is not half enough for the majority of the students.

Hi, VS -

Recall that the max score on the iBT is now 120. ETS now gives a max score of 30 points for the 4 areas.

I know you're interested in just about everything involving teaching, so here are sample iBT minimal scores accepted by a handful of unis:
