here in taiwan there are clauses where you have to pay the agency money if you terminate without notice or even with notice.

How about in China.

Yes I know it's not the right attitude but just wondering as it is always good to have that knowledge in case something happens back home.

Every "agency" would have its own rules - ask the agency if you plan on using a recruiter.

Otherwise, there are penalties written into the government approved contract (SAFEA) if you get a job on your own.

and those come with fines of more than a few thousand RMB

a newcomer to this 5,000 years old country with intentions of breaking contracts if the job is such a sh*te might want to know that in some provinces such as fujian, guangdong, guanxi there're some new rules ... a foreign worker is to obtain a "RECOMMANDATION LETTER" from his/her dear employer once his/her "foreign contract" is accomplished...in cases of no letter provided one may not be able to stay on and renew his/her work visa in the same location

cheers and beers to foreign workers' improving or worsening work environments in peoples republic
