Therefore, he moved to Canada, got a Canadian passport and entered the program as a Canadian. He snuck in through the back door.

That seems to be quite unlikely. The guy moved to another country and got citizenship there just to become a JET? Even countries like Canada don't give out passports like they're candy.

JETs have been caught with marijuana and arrested for various other offenses. So have Japanese public school teachers and other Japanese public servants. Just check any newspaper on any given day and they'll be another story on how a government employee was busted for buying sex from a junior high school girl. The thing is that in any large group of people, there's bound to be a few to be arrested for something or another. The larger the group, the more arrests. Interac has a lot of employees working as ALTs. One of them are going to be caught doing something that they shouldn't do every once an a while.

It seems that the BoE does want to solve the problem by hiring us as 'Hijyo kin koshi' ( direct hire -special lecturers).
The BoE is eager to find a solution.

On 17 January the Kanagawa Board of Education offered to give our (union) group our jobs back starting in April. We still have to work out a lot of small details, but the bottom line is that we are going beck to work.

Today we meet in Fujisawa to decide whether we would accept the offer or tell the Board of Education to pack sand. It was a unanimous vote (11-0) to go back to work. Our next face to face meeting with the Kanagawa Board of Education will be on the 28th.

More details to follow.

hhhmmm, this is interesting

... so the Kanagawa BOE is going to leave Interac? or just your group? (this is a special case?)

First of all, tentative congratulations, terry.

Who exactly is "your group"? The people who fought for this in court?

I hope you guys get all that you want. Please keep everyone posted on those "lot of small details". I have a feeling the ride is far from over.

Are you at liberty to say how all of this transpired to reach this point?
