So I'm planning on moving to Taiwan in a few months and will be getting a laptop to replace my old bulky desktop and was after a little advice from those who have lived there.

Here in Australia I can get a pretty decent one for a little over a thousand Australian dollars (NT$28275?). What is the market like in Taiwan for laptops and computers in general?

And what sort of SIM cards do they use? Would they be computable with an Australian mobile phone? Or do you need to get a new phone and SIM in-country?

I've read a few conflicting things about both these so was hoping someone could clear things up.

Thanks.

Computers will probably be a bit cheaper here, as most electronics seem to be slightly cheaper than elsewhere.

Taiwan uses GSM phones. If you have an UNLOCKED GSM phone then you can use it in Taiwan, with a Taiwanese SIM card. If your phone is locked to your carrier in Oz then you'll have to buy a phone from a service provider here. Good news is Taiwanese love their cell phones, and they're pretty damn cheap, especially if you sign up for a contract.
