Thanks Cleopatra for your response. However, I do have a few follow-up questions, if you don't mind.
If a telephone line is already installed, would the dial-up usage be included on the telephone bill or would I have to purchase cards to use the service?
Also, both JMSauer and Stephen Jones mentioned in their posts the use of buying cards for DSL service as opposed to applying for a subscription. While waiting for the iqaamah completion would this be possible? Or would I need a special DSL modem that only a ISP provides, thus necessitating waiting for the iqaamah completion anyway? |

If you need immediate broadband access, it will have to be at work. You need to check with your employer about the availability and using it for your studies during your free time.

It is now possible to use dial-up internet directly, without needing cards. The cost (about 3 SR an hour) will be added to your bill.

I think you misunderstood them. The cards are used to pay for DSL time with a service provider, they do not cancel out the need to have DSL activated on your phone line. This can only be done by STC (the Saudi phone company) and only once you have an Iqama. You can buy the modem and DSL time from any ISP, without the need for an Iqama, but that's not much use if your phone line is not set up for DSL. |

| Thanks VS. I was wondering about using Internet access on campus, but wasn't sure if it was allowed for personal use even if I had free time. But nonetheless, since my reasons are of an academic nature I will pose the question to the administration. |

DSL is not the best option - especially if you're on the move. MOBILY CONNECT offers complete flexibility and high speed, where ever there is a MOBILY service. It is a small modem connected to the USB port of your laptop/desktop at 7.2Mbs. Completely self contained, it installs in 2 - 3 minutes on Win XP or Vista. 1075 Riyals will secure you a modem and 5GB of data prepaid. 200Riyals per month after that. Alternately 350Riyals will get you a daily cap of 3GB for 1 month. |

There is no seperate number for Riyadh. Each ISP has its own number for dial-up access. Here are some of them:

3660666
3660999
There are lots more. Some connect better (faster, more reilable connection) than others. Experiment, and find the one that works best for you. |
