Hello,
Assuming one has the standard requirements (BA, native speaker, etc), what are the requirements for TEFL certification in Thailand? I recently read that many people are having trouble entering the country because of bolstered security on the work visas....basically you must have a 120 hour TEFL certification to enter the country and get a job. Is this true?
Thanks! |

There has been a major crackdown here - that's true - but it applies mainly to people with fake degrees. Regarding a tefl certificate - some schools do require it, some say they prefer it, and others don't really care - if you have other qualifications and/or experience and/or you happen to be a handsome devil. In other words, hiring requirements are left up to the individual school to decide. There is no such thing as an official policy regarding qualifications for foreign teachers of English - at least not yet - not that I am aware of. I also read they were going to ask for specific TEFL training for the visa. They did that in Turkey when I was there, and it mainly led to bribes and forgeries, two things not unknown in Thailand...
