Anyone there with first-hand info?
Apparently seven (7) highly qualified English Language Lecturers with intensive Gulf experience have fled the place or were forced to leave (????) since September 2007. Only a few months?
The rumor also is that Abu Dhabi Education Council committee is talking about closing the place down since they cannot get male students. |

Well they had an ad in Gulf News today for some admin positions and for English faculty. Can't imagine they would close so soon and nobody would have expected them to get many male Emirati students anyway. Teaching is hardly a job that would attract your average local male. |

I'd imagine it's rumors.
I know 5 instructors there. None of them to my knowledge has been forced or asked or encouraged to leave.
Most higher education institutions in the UAE have a hard time getting male students. I'd imagine this is certainly the case with ECAE, since they focus on

teacher preparation, educational research and school development. |
These aren't generally fields that attract male applicants.
I doubt you'll find scandals in this corner. However, it is a new organization -- and they certainly need to work their way through some bumpy roads. |

Just for YI, MLI closed officially in 2005 after 7 years of existence and technically it was already decided to shut it down during a hot summer in 2003 when those Sheikhs were meeting in someone's "Majliss" (Spelling????)/ Reception Hall. After a 5' conversation , the future of MLI in 2003 was already decided.
If the rumor is true which I am skeptical, they might be planning to switch it to another educational institution within Abu Dhabi Education Council area or interest.
On the other hand, it makes a bit sense to me: If they are unable to attract male students, then what is the purpose of ECAE? HCT Colleges, UAE University, Zayed Uni and the list goes on run Education Departments that train new teachers. Thus, why adding one more?
Just my 5 cents & I could be wrong! |

I suspect that your rumor about MLI is probably wrong too. The decision made in that majlis was more likely that they figured that they (the military) could run it themselves and didn't need to be paying someone to do it. So, they dumped AMIDEAST and as any of us could have predicted, the program went into the crapper. After bungling it into total chaos, they brought in the HCT CERT program and then blocked everything they tried to do. And it took a couple of years before there was no life left in that corpse.
And I can't imagine that having male students is the only reason for the existence of ECAE. Getting local males in the Gulf to go into education has always been about as close to impossible as one can get. Even in Oman, where they have a bit more of a work ethic, women students make up 80% of the education programs and I expect that was/is the highest percentage in the Gulf.
You certainly seem to pass on a lot of rumors, but most of them seem to have no validity.

You're engaged in muckraking, and you know it. Two EFL teachers were 'let go' for various reasons. Perhaps you're one of them? |

Many posters on this forum, including myself, are really interested in knowing about those various reasons that led those EFLers leave rather than accusing someone who is trying to reveal the reality and help potential employees about the danger.
You seem that you know what's going on there? Could you please kindly share the info with others instead of accusing people? |

Veil/ Have you read my message before replying? And I quote my own words" If the rumor is true which I am skeptical, they might be planning to switch it to another educational institution within Abu Dhabi Education Council area or interest"
Read again my sentence, reread your reply and you will find out that your post was provocative long-time poster. |

I had read your posts and that is exactly why I responded as I did. Have you read your posts? Three out of three seem to be wrong above... plus the MLI supposition... It wasn't until down the thread when other posters had given information showing that it was wrong that you decided that you might be 'skeptical.'
bje has it right... muckraking from the subcontinent...
I rest my case.
