| Rumor has it that the agent won't be getting any more teaching contracts. The Iraqis probably found out how much he was skimming off, just like the other contractors. |

It hasn't slowed any of the other skimmers down... neither Iraqi or otherwise... this contract is totally small potatoes. Probably just jealousy that they didn't get a kickback - whoever stopped it. We all know that there is no oversight on any of this... on either side.

Out of morbid curiousity, what would be the salary on a contract like this? |

Dear Griff-Jones,
On another thread devoted to the same topic, Pilot-in-Command posted this:
"A couple of months ago I got a phone call from a recruiter in the D.C. area. He asked if I'd be interested in teaching in Iraq! The salary was quoted at 75k plus 5k after 6 and 12 months. I asked where I'd be located...he said I'd be moving around a lot! No doubt!!!!
I politely declined."
And this site has a number of links to jobs in Iraq:
http://jobsearch.about.com/od/internationaljobs/a/iraqjobs.htm
including this one:

Terrible money for the risks involved.
"Travelling around indeed."

Dear Griff-Jones,
Well, it's hard(er), they say, to hit a moving target. And I hear some of those armored vehicles have air-conditioning and stereo CD players.
"This was no ordinary belt pinning me to the driving seat of the Cougar H Series 6x6 Urban Fighting Vehicle, a $500,000 (265,000) armoured behemoth that can drive over an Iraqi roadside bomb also known as an improvised explosive device (IED) with little more than a shudder.
Their effectiveness duly impressed British officers who have lost at least 18 men in IED attacks. So good is the Cougar at withstanding blast damage, the makers claim, that when it drives over a landmine the CD player skips and thats all."
Well, that'd be enough to decide me. I'm not working anywhere my CD collection is going to get ruined.
Regards,
John |

When you're alone in a poorly guarded compound - that's where the problems might begin.

Dear Griff-Jones.
" . . . that's where the problems might begin."
More likely where they might end, I fear.
