This school actually want qualified teachers. Got an email from an agent the other day asking if I was interested..
Primary (lower) Teachers, July 08, Indonesia, Cirebon
This is an international curriculum school. Its student body mainly consists of the local Cirebonese students with some students coming from other cities. Unlike the student body, the staff is a mix of local and expatriate teachers. The school would consider itself as a small school with limited number of students in each classroom making it an ideal place to teach. The school curriculum uses Cambridge International Primary Programme as its framework.
Compensation and Benefits

Well I thought 6.5 million was low for a school in Medan, but this one really reaches new levels of sacrifice.
With a salary like that it looks basically like a 'volunteer' position, because after you have spent some money on a few groceries and travelled somewhere, you will have little/nothing left.
This, once again, shows that Indonesia is a desirable place to live and work, because teachers there are willing to work for very modest salaries.
This is the opposite to Korea, where not a single teacher I have met (in Korea) would teach here if it were not for the generous salaries/free housing and savings potential (most teachers save at least $1000 per month).
In my case, I am looking to move to Indonesia, when finished in Korea (hopefully soon), because I realize how life short is, and money can only compensate partly for what you want to do.

Ghost - do you think anyone actually cares when you rehash the same crap over and over again....so the salary is too low for you - stay in Korea.
The salary range was 6.5 - 8 mil, you would have got 8 mil so don't go around sprouting crap about only 6.5. In any case you could have got more if you bothered to email around and didn't everything to be handed to you on a plate. I know of a job coming up in Medan that is paying 18mil a month but I am not going to tell you about it cos you sound like a tosser. |

I don't quite understand why people are so unkind to you, Ghost. Yes, you've repeated how much money you've earned yet how unsatisfied you are with life in Korea in a few different posts, but so what? That's what has been on your mind.
I sympathize with what you're saying-- I was in the same position several years ago-- I had visited Indonesia for two months. Having learned the language (enough to converse) and falling in love with the culture, I ended up teaching in Korea for a year. I couldn't wait to get out, and the money in Korea wasn't enough to make me want to stay there. Having said that, Ghost, I will tell you that there were times when I was in Indonesia that I thought seriously about returning to Korea. You may not believe me now, but there will likely be things about Korea that you will miss. For me, it was the food and some of the friends I had made.
Anyway, Ghost, I hope all goes well for you. I've enjoyed reading your posts. If I were still in Indonesia, I'd try to help you find a good position. |

Rowlf, Because how many times can you just rehash the same stuff over over and over again. It is not hard to find out how much the ESL schools are paying in Indonesia and if it is not enough, stop whining about it and go to a place that does pay enough. To me, this is a forum to talk constructively about teaching in Indonesia, not somewhere to say what is on your mind over and over and over again.
KCA, I work at an Int School and the process is quite long, you can't just apply to the school and expect to get a job. Usually, the school advertises and attends job fairs and you have to be lucky if there is a position you are suitable for and then lucky to get an interview. Teaching in Int Schools here is actually very competitive because the pay is usually over 3 times that of the language schools. Usually includes housing, medical and all other benefits too. Given the cost of living, that means one can save a lot. Most int schools have already filled their positions for next academic year and it is too late to go to most Feb job fairs.
The 18mil job I mentioned earlier is at a nat plus school, which is another option for fully qualified teachers. If Ghost was serious about getting a position he should have forgot totally about language schools and email every nat plus school he could.
Alright, enough already - goodluck in Korea. |

Dear Sherlock:
Kindly PM me the agent's e-mail address. My wife and her parents are from Cirebon and we would like to set-up there. Any other information about this school would be appreciated by me. Thanks
Sincerely, John

Well I guess if you're retiring and/or have other money coming in it would be an alright job to have, otherwise I can't imaging living on 5.5 juta a month...Yikes! |

Thanks for the info.
Living cost in Cirebon is very very Low ( beside we have parents , sister and brother there) , and living style there is very slow too.
Yes, I can say that is good for retirement. The traffic is less. You can reach one place to another in about 10-15 mins ( by motor ). Nasi Goreng is not favorite foods in Cirebon. The famous food is call Nasi Jamblang. They serve the rice in some kind of teakwood leaves. Many Jakarta people come to Cirebon just to taste this. It cost you about 10k rp with some meat. My ex Boss who owns restaurent in Singapore told me , that she came to Cirebon just to taste " Nasi Jamblang " ..........ha ha ha.

I e-mailed about 30 national plus schools and most of the e-mails bounced back!
I just turned down a cushy job at a University in Korea - 2.2 million, 12-16 hours teaching, 4-5 months paid vacation and 450,000 housing allowance. Most people would jump at the chance, but one year in Korea has been enough for me......I'm not happy here. The culture here does not suit me - socially isolating experience.
The job is good, but I don't want to be in Korea anymore.
I have booked a flight for Bali, February 16th and will stay until March 5th. If anyone has any leads, feel free to pm. If time permits - I plan to travel up to Surabaya, Yogya, Bandung, Jakarta and maybe Medan. Thank you for leads.
If anyone wants the job I rejected in Korea, let me know. Preference for M.A., but most people getting work there have B.A.'s and that is enough. It is a vocational university in north east Seoul.
