I've been in BA for about a week now, and will be here for close to a year. I think it's finally about time I got myself a cell phone. I need a new phone, and I have no intention of getting a plan and simply want to go the pre-paid route. I definitely just want to go the cheapest route, all I want to do is make calls and receive texts. No frills.
How exactly do I express this clearly? Are there some general Spanish buzzwords for buying cell phones that I should know of?
I went into an electronics store today, (keep in mind my Spanish is not great), and couldn't get this across. The guy just kept telling me to buy phone cards, and I wasn't able to communicate that I wasn't just here for a little while and will need to make and receive a lot of local calls.
I would greatly appreciate any info you guys can spare. |

He was right...
Buy a phone without a plan, "chip" and phone cards to use for minutes.
You will not be able to get a plan with out a DNI (in my experience).

Heh, yeah I was pretty dumb about it that first try.
But I actually managed to get one! While I'm slightly confused by the refill process, I'm sure I'll catch on - and fast, seeing as I only have 10 pesos worth of minutes at the moment.
The woman at the store said I just go to Kioskos and such to get the cards, sounds easy enough.
Thanks for the insight, though. |
