About the original question:
Yes, you can gain a work permit/ARC with an Associate's degree and a TEFL qualification. However, it is true that not EVERY degree is acceptable, and it depends on the government's recognition of both your degree and your TEFL qualification. For reference, at Hess, we have had people accepted and not accepted on the basis of having an Associate's degree & TEFL qualification combination.
In my opinion, the process you should take to ensure you will have no problem upon entering Taiwan is to try to arrange with your prospective employer to get your work permit before you come to Taiwan. The Associate's degree is only needed to obtain the work permit; resident visas and ARCs rely on the work permit but not your degree. Once you get the work permit issued, you will be fine working for that employer. |

Thanks for that information. Do you really think they'd be willing to hire someone with an associate's degree/TEFL certificate long-distance like that?
Oh man, after renting a tiny basement room in Korea for 150,000 won a month (because of lack of money) and being denied a working visa even after 3.5 years of living here and speaking their language well, Taiwan's relatively liberal system looks AWESOME. |

Dusting off a fairly old thread...
If Taiwan accepts an Associate degree plus a TEFL certificate, would a DELTA plus a TEFL cert. (or even just the DELTA) work? It IS post-grad work, even if it's not a degree. I don't have a bachelor's but I do have the Licentiate diploma in TESOL from Trinity College, London and 12 years' experience teaching. The problem I ran into in Vietnam WASN'T lack of a first degree but rather (and this really made no sense but I know how red tape goes) that the diploma came from Trinity COLLEGE (i.e. didn't say anything about "university" on it). Can this be worked with, worked around (as in the employer will help me get a fake degree or whatever he needs to do if he wants to hire me) or am I S.O.L? I can go back to Indonesia, and may just anyway but I want to do Taiwan. What is it like? If it's like the PRC, it ain't no thang... |
