I'm an American university student who has British and American citizenship, and I'm wondering how easy it is to find work (teaching or other) in Barcelona or Madrid. I'll be finished with my bachelor's degree by this August, and I'm also fluent in Spanish. Is it worth is for me to get TEFL certification or does my EU citizenship make it a lot easier to get work? I also have about 2 years experience tutoring English composition and ESL. I'll take any advice I can get... Thanks! |

Hi. Your british citizenship and experience will help but to get the best chances you probably should get your TEFL cert as most legal jobs require it at least here in Barcelona. Maybe try looking on Loquo or Infojobs to see current requirements. |

If you're coming to Madrid and have papers and experience I wouldn't bother, but Barcelona is a lot more competitive jobs-wise so I'd recommend one if you fancy living on the coast.
That said, they're always useful things to have, and if you want to carry on teaching, for example in Asia, you get access to the better paid jobs.
On balance, I'd say if you have the time and the money go for it, but if the main thing is getting over here then come to Madrid and get stuck in.
