Hi

Can anybody tell me of the best websites for job hunting, or any tips on how to go about job hunting when you are already in China on a tourist visa?

I'd be particularly interested in working in an international school, or a university (as I'm sure many others are). Also I'd be ok for cash so wouldn't be desperate to find something immediately.

Thanks in advance

For University jobs I would suggest the website angelina's esl cafe. They advertise on Dave's site. I found my college job through them and they were very helpful and kept in touch through the application process. Although it sounds like a private agency, I think I read somewhere that it is an 'official' organisation. You could also try cathay teacher.
I came to Shanghai last June to look for a job on a tourist visa, found one, visited the college and talked to a foreign teacher here (very important in getting a true picture). The college told me not to bother with a Z visa. So when I was back in England I got another L visa, and arrived in China in late August. The college then did all the paperwork for residence. Apparently this is OK in Jiangsu Province, but other provinces may ask you to get a Z visa in your home country.

Thanks, that website looks really good.

The job descriptions on there don't give a lot of information about working hours, class sizes etc though.

What's the average schedule like for a college or university?

Thanks

I think 14 -18 hours contact hours a week is usual, and very reasonable. In my case these always come in blocks of 2 X 45 minute lessons. Each term I teach three different subjects (conversation, writing, listening etc). Out of teaching hours the foreign teachers here have no office hours (in fact no office). But there may be other commitments like 'English corner' one evening a week, or judging an English speaking competition.
Class sizes vary between 30 and 40 but can be higher for some subjects.
Of course, each University will have its own particular contract requirements and curriculum.

The first place I got my job through. They are an 'official' organisation. I also got the job off Dave's first off. Still do your checking on where you think you would like to work. My place was two and a half months late with my airfares at the end of the first year but I am still wanting to sign on for a third year.

Now say you want a job in some city and in a university then do a search like " Shanghai university English teaching position job 2008'

You then get stuff like:

Although perhaps not really what the OP is looking for as most of the positions offered are with training centres, I'd recommend this to others:
