At Madinat Zayed, they have a 4 day work week, with the fifth day billed as a prep day, but you don't have show up anywhere to do it. |

I understand that the college faculty will be housed in the new ADNOC compound that is being built - not in Madinet Zayed, though. It will be combined with the faculty at that new campus, the name of which completely slips my mind right now. You know - the tiny little one in the middle of nowhere with two faculty members and a librarian and both male and female students (in separate classes). Help me out here! Really I can't remember what it is called...
Anyway, one of the two faculty members teaching there told me that they and the MZ crowd will be housed in the ADNOC compound when it is built.
Having said that, I have no idea how far apart the two campuses are.....

It's a 50-minute drive to Dubai, not one hour and 15 minutes. |
I suppose you have either: a) never been slowed at Sarjah and the National Paints flyover; b) flown by chopper into Dubai; or c) gone to Dubai from RAK after midnight and before 6 am.
Just a comment, no need to quibble or start a flame war over 25 minutes... Then of course is the other issue: Dubai at the NP flyover "border" or Dubai as in Deira, Knowledge Village, Sheik Zayad Rd or... |

Ruwais, yes. And Ruwais is 150 km or so from Madinat Zayed. It makes no sense that teachers working in MZ live in Ruwais. That would be no improvement commute-wise really...
I really don't think this info is accurate.
Besides, who wants to live in Ruwais?

I live in MZ and it's really not that bad. It's a good opportunity to save money at least. We have a thriving ex-pat community now, unlike last year when there was only 8 of us. Don't knock it 'till you've tried it.
I never did understand why HCT didn't acquire apartments in the new First Gulf Bank building. They are quite nice and spacious. Another new block of apartments is being built opposite City Mall behind the ADNOC petrol station and local rumor has it they are for teachers. Whether that means M.o.E teachers or not I don't know. |

You're absolutely right, Mcsam, and I am glad you like living in MZ.
Why HCT hasn't grabbed property there and elsewhere is a mystery indeed...

Building housing? Where? In Madinat Zayed? I don't think so. There are a couple of substandard tiny apartments above a small souk close to the college there, that's all.
The looong term plan includes a compound in MZ down the line, but nothing yet.
In fact, HCT has yet to secure land to build the real college, currently housed in an old high school...
Besides, who wants to live in MZ?

Don't forget that HCT is not in MZ itself, but about ten minutes drive away in a sort of hamlet (for want of a better word!). I agree with McSam re the lack of foresight shown in identifying housing for HCT staff members. HCT MZ opened its doors at exactly the same time that our project started in MZ so it is surprising that the admin didn't hear about the new housing going up and try to reserve some of the flats. I live on the old ADNOC complex, and while the villas are ancient by local standards (1970s), I am much happier living there than commuting via the dreadful
Sila road, haunt of lunatics and boy-racers
Living in MZ may not be for everyone, but I personally rather enjoy it, and not just for the money I'm not saving There are many advantages to viewing Abu Dhabi as an occasional exotic weekend destination! |

Hey, there's a Spinney's bottle shop and the Danat Beach Resort is just 10 minutes away. They could do worse! |
