Is anyone working at that place - the National Institute of Technology - in Jeddah?

I have not applied there yet, as I'm waiting to hear from two other places, but your feedback would be appreciated.

Any comments on the pay and conditions there?

Thank you.

The "INFO" doc they sent me gave basically NO info on working conditions:

(NIT-info.doc)
Quote:

Trainer and Teacher Positions
(2-year renewable contracts in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia)

The National Institute of Technology (NIT) is a recently commissioned post secondary, English-medium institution for training and education of male students majoring in building and construction technology programs.
The Institute uses English language as the medium of instruction. Highly-qualified, committed and experienced teachers/trainers are urgently required.
NIT uses high-end state of the art facilities, equipment, and programs.
Compensation packages are very competitive and tax-free depending upon ualifications and experience.

Applicants are invited to apply at any time for the following JOINING dates:
Sept. 2008,
Feb. 2009.

Trainers/Teachers are needed in the following areas:
English as a second language, Math, Electrical, Electronic System Technology, Heavy Equipment Operation, HVAC, Instrumentation, Insulation, Maintenance, Mobile Crane
Operation, Pipefitting, Plumbing, Rigging and Scaffolding, Safety, Welding.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
A first degree with the required certification and experience in the subject matter of the programme of interest.

Dates and locations of interviews will be communicated to the successful candidates.

(end NIT-info.doc)

In these documents there are a couple of misspellings and what I feel are some awkward wordings ( e.g.-"Safety" as opposed to 'First Aid')

Looks awfully fishy- the p.o. box number and the area code look strangely similar, anyone can get a gmail.com email addy. I would agree that this looks like a scam, but maybe I am being premature. Not sure if I should follow this up just to check out if it's legit or not. Waiting to see what B K adds...

No doubt after submitting all the docs requested they ask for some kind of deposit or fee or even bank account info, then never to be heard from again. No job and no moolah!

I know for sure there exist The NDT Technology Institute, of Dammam, and I met the ex-president of this institute, Mr Suhaim in 2005.
The same NDT Institute advertised for jobs in English, Math, and Physics in Dave's web site back in 2005. Here is some of the advert:

"Date: Wednesday, 11 May 2005, at 9:20 a.m.
Short Teaching Contract in Dammam
The NDT Technology Institute, of Dammam, Saudi Arabia wishes to recruit one Orientation Program Director and thirty (30) Instructors to teach a combination English, basic Physics and Maths in Dammam. Posts are available on a short term contract basis from 1 August to 23 December 2005. Instructors will be preparing 17 and 18 year old students for enrolment on a HND programme and will be teaching pure technical English or a combination of English with Physics or Maths.

Tax Free LumpSum contractual instruction fee will be agreed based on qualifications.

Please send a CV and covering letter to
[email protected] "

I am not sure if this Institute has any branch in Jeddah, which I doubt it!

Errr... 007... why bother to post something about another organization with a different name in a different city? What is the point??

Besides the common request for money at some point, they also have all of your passport information which can then be duplicated in fake passports.

VS

PS: you posted as I was writing this message... Good Work again BK!!

I am still not convinced that the ad is a scam as opposed to a new institution starting up.

I'm not convinced either. Boomerang Kid I commend your enthusiasm for investigating ESL scammers but I wouldn't get carried away without fully researching an institute first (judging from your other posts it seems you are really active in monitoring ESL ads). By campaigning to rid the Internet of any mention of such institutes, you may be deterring teachers from genuine vacancies at genuine institutes.

Having worked in Jeddah I disagree with your facts:

1. Many institutes in Saudi have little/no web presence besides ESL adverts e.g. Saudi British Center in Jeddah. And most of the known ones that do have a website provide minimal info anyway.

2. For Saudi's not to reply within 24 days let alone 24 hours is standard! Try sending your challenge to recognised institutes, even universities, and I doubt even then you'll get a reply.

3. Providing minimal information is again, typical of many language institutes in KSA.

I'm not sure of your experience in KSA, but the points above are common knowledge. No doubt there are scammers, but lets not go over the top.

Boomerang Kid 27 February 2008 (15.00)
Daves ESL Cafe

Dear Boomerang Kid,

Pardon my skepticism, but your moniker and profile look like VERY VERY MUCH a sock puppet to me.

I have tried to find out more about you, but there were (amazingly) NO articles about you, NO website dedicated to you and NO press releases from you. Ergo, you appear to be a fraudster.

But I'm a fair man.
If you can answer my challenge, within the next 6 hours (i.e., by 9pm KSA-time on Wednesday, 27 February), providing me with *conclusive* evidence for the existence of a legitimate human being, named: "John van den Boom", then I will apologetically admit my error.

If not..... I promise you to spend the next 2 days "blowing the whistle on your sock puppet".

Please do NOT send me information on posts you have made in the past, unless it is the post of a legitimate human being (in a legitimate body) about how THAT person is a unique, living, breathing human that can think for themselves and write a post. If you can provide me with just such a post, I will be happy to recognize your sock puppet, myself.

If not, I will be DELIGHTED to expose your "bogus sock puppet" for you.

With all due respect,

wannago

The man with the name of "John van den Boom" is an old retired man living in Melbourne, Australia. And here is his picture...http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,22984738-5010020,00.html

And he does not look like an English teacher either .... Laughing

So, let's wait and see if Boomerang is the real John van den Boom or a purely Kidsock puppet pulling the legs of my respected English teachers!! Laughing
