Hello.
I am curious to find out what a previous poster typed in.
There was mention of 20% tax and Westgate in the same sentence.
Is this true? Does Westgate deduct 20% from the monthly paycheck? It seems high.
I did do a search on Westgate and haven't found an answer to this.
Thanks for your help!

Try. The. Search. Function.

Failing that, try a google search on "Japanese Withholding Tax". (MOD EDIT..)

I thought this was a place to get help...perhaps I was mistaken.

I just wanted to know what percentage of tax is taken out of a monthly paycheck generally.

Besides, I did use the search function but everytime I click search, a blank page pops up. Not sure why yet.

No need to get huffy. Technical difficulties here. =)

This is the only mention I've heard of (to my recollection) about 20% tax from Westgate. http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=49436&highlight=westgate+tax

Please note that working holiday visa holders (who are not accepted by Westgate) are the only ones I know of that get 20% tax withheld from their paychecks (legally). Regularly, other visa holders get taxes about 7%.

I'm not sure, but it might have something to do with the fact that Westgate teachers are on three-month contracts.

You really ought to call Westgate and ask them directly.

A good question! Very Happy

And one I've thought about also over the last week in my research on Westage and other dispatch agencies.

I'd also be interested in knowing if anyone can post the facts on this. I've heard before that the 20% tax appliies to those on Working Holiday Visas also.
