|
|
I am moving to Malaga in September in order to enroll in four one month intensive courses at Malaga university. On the website it says that a one course four hours a day is 530 Euros for the month. I emailed them and got no reply. I then found this website which claimed to arrange courses at Malaga university,
http://www.gostudyspain.es/Prices.htm
They say its nearly 3000 euros for the same course.
They want 500 euros upfront so I suspect a scam. Has anybody studied at Malaga University before? If so, how much was the course? Are there two universities in Malaga as there seems to be two completely unrelated websites for Malaga university.
Any advice or suggestions for studying Spanish in Andalucia from September onwards will be gratefully received. |

I studied at the Quorum school in Neja for 5 weeks this summer.
I would recommend the school for certain and comparitivly it is cheap. I think it cost me a little over 1000 euros for 5 weeks including half board with a Spanish family.
The school is super friendly and the teachers are generally of a high standard. I was taught by 4 or 5 of them and didn't really have any compaints apart from the last couple of weeks the conversation classes were a bit frustrating because I felt that teacher should have been teaching grammar not conversation.
My course was 2 hours grammar and 2 conversation. Either 9am-1pm or 4-8pm.
Overall Id give it 4 stars for quality and 5 for value.
Oh and Nerja is a lovely town. Plus most tourists will have left by September. However Papagayo bar will be closed in the evenings then. Fantastic bar!
Teteria is a great shisha bar with 3 euro mojitos that pack a punch! |

you can find publicly funded classes at discounted rates. such classes are usually offered to immigrants and include the whole gamut, such as computer literacy classes etc. try asking at city hall or the library. |

There is only one Uni of Malaga, altho' the different faculties are not all stuck together.
All large cities in Spain have official 'Escuelas de Lenguas' with cheap language courses.
Tourist towns and small towns run courses for new residents dirt cheap...via the town halls. I studied spanish for a year in Fuengirola and paid 3euros a week.
Double check your websites and try to find the uni website. Call them. If it is the language fac, someone will spk English.

Thanks for the replies. The Quroum school looks like a great option. I've emailed them and just waiting on a reply.
Am in Korea at the moment and can't wait to get to Spain!
I take it the "private tuition potential" is not as high in Neja as it might be in Malaga for English students? |

Why pay money to learn Spanish when you're actually in the country? Once you're here you'll start learning in the street, shops, cafes, pubs etc.
And you'll learn fast! |

3000 euros is a bit steep: some mates of mine went to Salamanca (a great University/party town) and did a full time course for 1000 and had an excellent time.
My personal recommendation is to get a Spanish girlfriend: it's really quite surprising how keen local girls here are on us guiris: seems we're the latest must-have accessory...

Moore is right! In fact he ''ha dado en el clavo''. The best way to learn Spanish is in the close company of one of the locals. Get yourself a girlfriend (or a boyfriend, if you prefer). |

Thanks for the advice guys.
Have booked the Quorum school now for October and got some great reviews about the place from people on here. Anyone else taken a Spanish course through them? |
