Greetings gringos and others! I have been in the Sarapiqui region for exactly 22 days on a 6 month volunteer ESL assignment. I appreciate all the great advice I see on this venue. I am looking for opinions on landing ESL positions in the middle of July which I understand is the middle of the school year. San Jose or Heredia or nearby locations are ok. Should I be contacting the schools now and going on interviews? Is a suit and tie the best attire? Should I bring my TESL cert? I prefer low pressure situations. I have heard good things about Intercultura except for the pay. Thanks all! |

You will have no problem getting a job. Aim for casual business in most situations. Setting up interviews five months in advance? I don't think so. Try maybe one or two months before you arrive. You can contact schools and show interest, though. |

Won't hurt to email a few schools now. I would if you plan on being here for awhile. Then like OleLarssen says email them again about a month before you are ready. July is a good time to have a job, September October is a bit on the difficult side of the game. |
