Hello all,
I have made the big decision to go to Costa Rica. I know have to deside when. I would love to have left yesturday, but sitting here in my cubical I can see that didnt happen. I was planning on going mid April, but I am now thinking that maybe I should stay here for a beautiful summer and go when the weather turns back to crap. I also have the opportunity to go on a Cruise to Alaska the end of May with the family.
So I guess in short I was wondering when I should go? I have enough money now, but waiting until Sept I would only have more of a backfall. Is there a better time for jobs? Weather? Cheap flights (just a bonus really)? Should I go on the Cruise, have a nice summer and then take off never come home again???
Any imput would be great, my dicision making skill are currently under repair and any "what I would do" answers would be welcome.
Thanks for you help! |

If you come to Costa Rica in September, chances are you won't have a job or have to find 3 companies to work for to scratch out a living. I'd take the cruise, forget Costa Rica. |

So when is the best time to go to Costa Rica? Im still planning on going , if I go on the cruise than I cant leave until June at the earliest. I was possibly thinking of staying the summer here and then going in Sept. Would I be more likely to get a job in April, June, or Sept? (Or I guess any time between that).... |

The problem is that December and January is vacation time in Costa Rica - the entire public school system shuts down over the course of October-November and opens its doors again in late January. What this means is that nobody hires anyone (within education) between October(ish) and January(ish) unless a) there's a huge emergency, b) you have an obscene CV and it would be financial suicide not to hire you given the chance or c) a miracle happens.
So if you go in September you'll spend most of that month setting up, which means basically you'll have September-October to look for a job. Anything's possible, of course - but don't count on it.
The alternatives would be to go earlier (e.g. June-early August) or later (go in January and set up camp, start looking for a job in February. |
