This business has their own method for teaching language online. The website states that the "Director" (who never attended university) has developed a method for language learning. None of the other "Managers" seem to have any teaching experience.

A quick search found some job recruitment notices, including the following, which lists the high standards needed to work for these people:

	  | Summary: Language Calls LTD is looking for English Coaches to facilitate language conversation with our students. Coaches work from home over a high speed internet connection and are free to choose their own schedules and lesson topics. This opportunity provides coaches with unrivaled flexibility and the ability to work from anywhere in the world.

 Qualifications:
 * Must be a native English speaker
 * Must be at least 18 years of age and a high school graduate
 * Must have a computer in a quiet location with high-speed internet capability
 * Must have a headset with working earphones and microphone
 * Must be able to use basic computer applications or learn them quickly.
 Responsibilities:
 * English Coaches are responsible for facilitating English language conversation. Lessons are 50 minutes in length. You do not have to have experience teaching English as we want you to facilitate conversation more than teach rules and principles. Most of our students already know the rules but need guidance on everyday conversation.
 * Coaches are responsible for preparing material (pictures, videos, business articles, current events etc.) that will aid the student in learning. Coaches are free to use materials available on our site or may choose their own tools.
 * Coaches are expected to teach a minimum of 10 lessons per week. Coaches are free to post their own desired days/times and are expected to be on-time for all lessons reserved by students. Coaches may also reserve times that have been posted by students to provide added flexibility.
 * Coaches are responsible for ensuring they have a quiet place to work so they can focus wholly on the student. In addition, coaches are expected to maintain their high speed internet connection and a quality headset to ensure that each classs sound quality meets our standards.

 Compensation:
English coaches are paid USD $8.00 for each 50 minute lesson they complete. Coaches also receive a bonus of USD $50.00 at the completion of 30 post-training lessons. Training consists of 6 free practice lessons that allow you to learn our system and how to use our classroom tools. Payments are made once monthly to coaches via a PayPal account.
If youre interested in this opportunity, send an email to ;;;;;. Be sure to tell us how you heard about the English Coach position and where you are located.

	  | Topic: Bad experience with Englishcalls.com Posted: 16/May/2007 at 12:30am
Hi there. Just wanted to offer some words of warning.

Englishcalls.com feels like a well established online ESL tutoring website. The people are quite nice, as are the students. However, the feedback I was getting from my training sessions did not seem to add up with what actually occurred at the sessions. I inquired about it, and they ellaborated with new weaknesses in my performance that did not seem plausible. I even had my friends come and listen to one of my sessions to get their opinion, and they also found the feedback quite contrary. After years of teaching experience, and two college degrees, I felt my teaching methods, and english tutoring skills were more than appropriate. Thus I decided to discontinue with them.

The training hours they put you through, 6-10 on average, are also unpaid. Which gave me a bad impression to begin, but I thought I would try it out. No harm done, but no gain either.

Why don't you give it a try for a few weeks?

I will wait for another email from that company because I asked them for more information.

With all due respect, 15 minutes of research using any search engine would have produced hundreds of leads to follow.

 Good luck!

				| I've just received a second email, asking to set the time for an interview. I am pretty much informed by now, thanks to you all.
Surely, the information about no experience necessary and so on does not differ from some language teaching institutions in Vilnius I know, because when demand is too high, who cares! The pay indicated is for English lessons while I will be interviewed for quite another language, so this is not an issue now. Trial lessons are asked by many language courses here (also, for free!) but nothing I'm craving for, really. So far, nothing too different, excpet that it is online teaching. Plus, Lithuania has problems with PayPal.

Serious_Fun, I asked them specific questions that no online search engine can answer, with all due respect

				| Hey, Capt Yos, what happened to your previous avatar? Such a striking young fella!
PS - good luck Koot. But in all fairness, and semi-agreement with the others, be careful. Though S. Fun's example of a "complaint" post didn't seem to have too much complaining in it, and other Google searches didn't turn up much, best be a wee cautious.

				| Yes, it seemed to me that the person's who complained friends are all experts in teaching But the other posters there said the pay was in time, which is good. I'm still waiting for the interview and will post here asap. | |

				| HK-ICE see this video: Aha the video has been pulled. One of the HK-ICE students who went to the HK qualifications council to be told their Bachelor was worth approximately the same as a local diploma or Associate program.

I personally worked at HK-ICE, I completed my contract and refused to renew. Reputable, I disagree in the strongest possible terms.

Your posts are normally logical and lucid. Did we miss something here? In case we did, tell us more about HK-ICE (is it gov't related? sounds like it, but a Google search yields not much - tell us more) and how it relates to this particular topic.

Good luck, Koot. Hope this works out well for you. Just let us know what happens.

				| A clarification

Hong King Institute of Education HKIEd

sounds similar to, but is in NO WAY related to

Hong Kong Institute of Continuing Education (HKICE)

If you browse the SCMP you will see they have a regular pattern of staff turnover. Usually the accountants first (always a sign!), then receptionist, office admin. and legal staff.

I appologise for any confusion The HKIEd are one of the World's finest and truest dedicated bastions of Education. Beware of imitations

				| I have received two emails from them since my last post here. One was with the information about the technology and the last one was about training sessions. I was asked to log in and make sure all details are correct and set time for Monday (the 7th). At this stage, I emailed them back saying that 1. to see the contract sample would be great 2. am not available until next weekend because I teach many lessons at the moment.
I would really like to see the contract as it involves payment which is related to taxes I have to pay and I must see what legal reuirements are there. If the contract doesn't suit me (I mean, my tax plan), there can be no work for them whatsoever.
