I'll be heading to Indonesia soon from New Zealand to teach for 1 year.
Chances are I may not return home after that contract.
NZ is a pretty slack country so I don't know if they would send it overseas to me if I need it for a second job.
So if I take a police report with me now when would that be valid until?

Ok. That's good then.

What about the countries I live in prior to moving to the country I need the check for? How do they keep a record of my activities in the countries I am travelling to? ie: do I need a domument from those countries or is there some kind of Interpol ring that records malicious activities on your passport or assume that if you haven't been deported you are behaving Question

I take my police background check with me to every job interview...and show it to prospective employers when producing diplomas, certs., etc.

Even if the interviewers do not ask to see one I will produce it; it may give me an edge over the next teacher who does not have one!

As mentioned, it is really only valid as of the date it was generated by the respective agency/bureau...

I haven't heard of any international background checks, although they may be required soon enough! (and bogus reports available on Khao San Road soon after that! Evil or Very Mad )

Make sure to get letters of reference* from every employer!

* which should include subjects taught, student details (age, skill level), full-time or part-time job, extra duties/responsibilities...all on school letterhead!

These letters of reference are worth much more than their weight in gold...or platinum...or...

They are valid for 6 months from the date on your Police Check. Unless the school you are going to work at gives you a form to fill in after the interview for international clearance, you have nothing to worry about. If they do, just don't acknowledge any 'country' that you may have gotten into trouble with. That country may be stamped into your passport.... You have two options. Get a new passport or many times they don't even check! Indonesia.....no wuckin' furries!
