Im thinking about coming to China for about 4 months at the end of the year. My friend in Beijing says that its possible to get short term stuff.
What do you all think? She said some people make 25,000 RMB a month? I dunno if she is exagerating or what (she hasn't lived in beijing long...) What do you think?
Is it possible to get short term work? what about at that salary? I think Beijing has a cheap cost of living right? How much do you need to get buy on a decent lifestyle...nothing super boring but not blowing the bank every weekend?
overall, any advice is helpful as i dont really know anything |

Poor old Will hasn't seemed to turn up many leads so far... But, keep your eye out for a 'high nose' working in costume at the Museum up there.
For the OP. People can give you better answers if you give fuller info about your aims and situation...
Have you been to China before?
You mean short term ESL teaching work? Or, a more academic (e.g. English literature) course in a formal program?
You will need to get a working visa. So, you basically need to have a school to sponsor you for that.
You will probably need at least a Bachelors degree and TEFL/TESOL certificate to have a good chance at landing TEFL/ESL teaching jobs in BJ. Although, if you're not coming at the end of August or very beginning of September (start of the normal school/Uni academic year here in China), any schools hiring later on might be looking more urgently...??? And, so might accept less qualified/experienced applicants???
If you can arrive at the beginning of Sept and can stay until early/middle January, then that's a whole academic semester in any case.
If you see advertisements that you like the look of, then even if you were coming near the beginning of October some schools might even hold a position for you if you can convince them that you're going to give them value for money once you arrive. Besides, I think it's still quite common for 1st years students to start after the October 1st Chinese National Day holiday week. Most 1st years (Freshmen) still have to do a couple of weeks of military training when they initially arrive on campus.
Some schools are already advertising for staff for next semester, but many jobs you'll see now (on Daves' Job lists for instance) are current vacancies.
You would be lucky to land a single job paying 25k rmb/mth straight off the plane on your first trip to China. Unless you go into a top tier International school teaching formal academic school subjects. Or, if you get a job on an International University partnership program where the foreign Uni employs you under their native country's employment conditions.

hey,
No, I haven't ever been to China before but I have a friend who lives in Beijing.
I'm just looking for short term esl work. Im a certified teacher, have an MBA, and 3 yrs teaching experience (2 with ESL). no tefl though..
whats cost of living like there? |
