Don't think too much.

Thinking in eikaiwa only gets you into trouble.

Westgate is more like a dispatch agency. Look at their web site.

I don't work in eikaiwa.

Dispatch agencies usually don't control lesson plans and usually just act as a middle-man between a school and an ALT. The ALT works with the other teachers, not for a private company on school campus that students pay extra to use.

If you work for a dispatch agency, you are precisely working for a private company, ghostrider, no matter how your "coworkers" are on campus. Beware of thinking otherwise.

I once applied for Westgate and got fed up with their tedious application process. They seemed to want my life story and three references before I even knew I had the job. I'm aware of how they generally work. The point I was trying to make wasn't that Westgate is literally an Eikawa, but rather, that as you pointed out in the above post, that it is a private company and not that much higher up than an Eikawa, if that can even be said.

Dang, how did the Westgate conversation bleed into this one?! This thread is about teachers, not Professors! Mad

The teaching-related questions on their current online app. are grammatically incorrect, some of them appallingly so. I think that was one of the tipping points where I decided to pursue a master's degree.

Samples: "Given the speaking and listening nature of our program, what are some activities that you would do for reinforcing problems with stress in a sentence?"

Shocked

"In a sample class, you are using a dialogue to teach a situation context. You are teaching clarification language. For example, Can you repeat that? Can you create a 4 sentence dialogue between two people illustrating how to clarify a misunderstanding?"

Can I create a dialog? Sure. Would you like to see the dialog I create? Rolling Eyes

It's going to be really nice when those 5 year visas start coming out. Anyone get one yet?

Why would they, Miyazaki? It was in the newspapers only recently as an announcement that the MOJ is considering it, not that they have established it.
