Hello; first post here

I have recieved a Job offer in Fushun in the liaoning province. I was wondering if anyone in this forum has traveled or taught there. This will be my first time to China(though I've been to Japan and South Korea) and am just looking for general information or opinion of the area. From what I can find in past posts on this forum and using my googlefu it's a cold smoggy mining town(which I'm ok with, I currently live in the mountains of Colorado and can live with the smog to get my foot in the door in china).

Thanks for any info!

You can't compare any town in Colorado with what you will see in Fushun. I have been there several times. Yes, it's very polluted, dirty and depressing. You might like Shenyang or Dalian better. In fact I would recommend Dalian first. You shouldn't have any trouble finding a job there. Stick with Dalian or Shenyang is my advice.

If you search on a certain online encyclopedia thats blocked in China, youll find that Fushun has the worlds largest artificial pit (coal mine), and its been in operation since about the 12th century.

I saw a documentary on Fushun on CCTV 9 earlier this year. Basically, theyre moving the whole city from one side of the river which cuts through it to the other side. This was being done because of environmental concerns related to that big coal mine, I think.

Like many cities in the northeast, it has some bad history with the Japanese during their occupation in the 1930s/40s. I once saw on TV that there used to be a prison there for Chinese soldiers.

Some other interesting trivia about Fushun:
-- Lei Feng, the role model for good citizenship and selflessness, died there in 1949.
-- Wang Nan, Chinas top womens ping-pong player, is from there. Shes won numerous championships and can be seen on CCTV 5 promotions for ping-pong. BTW, shes a lefty.

Living in a small town will give you a more authentic China experience, so go for it. At least Dalian and Shenyang are close by. NE people are generally very warm and friendly, despite the reputation for fighting when disagreeing with somebody.

well I've been living in Fushun for two months now, and even though it's very dirt I absolutely love it(really fun people)! I found a wonderful school too. I'm posting this in hopes that someday in the future someone will do a search on Fushun and find this post.
