For those involved w/ the various vendors in the reformation of Abu Dhabi government schools:
-What is the capacity in which you work? e.g. mentoring, curriculum design, etc.
-How do you find the students in primary/secondary in terms of their behaviour?
-How large are the classes?
-Does your annual calender reflect the days off of a teacher or that of a private sector employee? |

I don't know. What's PPP mean? I'm thinking of all the people working for vendors like cfbt who are working within govt schools. I think Zayed U was doing this, too, but i haven't seen the recruit for it in a while. |

PPP stands for something like Public and Private Partnership (so memorable I've already forgotten it) and is the project involving ADEC and various providers such as Nord Anglia, CfBT, Mosaica and Sabis and their reform of education in Abu Dhabi. People are employed in different roles, including mentoring, teacher training and teaching in tandem with local teachers. As for the behaviour of the pupils, I'd say it's the teachers who can be more of a handful. A lot depends on the attitude of the headmaster/mistress. Terms and conditions of employment in the organisation I work for initially depended on your position in the food chain. For example, senior staff members got 30 (elastic) days of annual leave and lowly EFL teachers and translators/interpreters got school holidays. When the project expanded to include 6-9 schools, all staff were put on 30 days annual leave with the exception of the translators. I work for CfBT, which the previous poster has pasted, and while she raised some fair points, I'd have to say - having met various people from the other providers - that it doesn't seem any worse than its competitors. Anyway, I think you were looking at a job offer from Mosaica, weren't you? |

I don't have an offer-I did apply to them last week but have heard nothing as of yet. Though the salary w/ Mosaic is a great deal higher than some tertiary contracts in the UAE, it would seem that having less paid time off throughout the year might devalue the overall salary a bit.
Takahiwai, how long is your contract w/ CfBT? Do you feel well-compensated for the work? May I ask where you are in the food chain? |

My contract with CfBT was for an initial two-year stretch, with an optional third year. Those of us who are employed in the K-5 schools are now coming to the end of the two years and some people have been offered the opportunity to continue for a third year, although certain jobs have disappeared and new ones have been created, so we all had to reapply - quite ridiculous in the case of those who are not changing jobs, but there you go. Yes, I am very well paid for what I do, although I work hard for it. (Being in the middle of nowhere, if there are extra-curricular jobs to be done, there is a very limited pool of labour, namely 3 of us - and ADEC does like to dream up ill-thought-out, last-minute, knee-jerk schemes and throw them at us.) I am just about the lowest of the low in the CfBT food chain, being an EFL person . Hope that helps! |

I teach English to primary school teachers. As to the pay range, I wouldn't know - I only know what I get |
