i have been living in kashima, ibaraki for about 3 weeks.

i am 5 minutes away from this:

therefore i am looking for links for surf shops, shapers, whomever...

i just spent a few days in tokyo and realized that surfboards are horribly overpriced there. any links, etc., especially those that are easily navigated with those with novice level japanese skill are appreciated.

http://www.surfersite.com/category/surfshop.html

Ibaraki =
茨城県

It has two sites/shops listed.

It seems that used boards can be had between 25,000 yen and 45,000 yen.

Oh, and would you mind scaling down the size of that picture, please?

Unfortunately across all of Japan, surfboards are very expensive. Even locally shaped boards sell for over 100,000yen while popular well-known brands can cost as much as 190,00. Even more if you want to the latest in surf technology; epoxy resin/boards.

If you're just starting out and don't care too much about dimensions or materials buy a cheap board at "Sport Authority" or 'Sport Depot". Both are well-know sport store franchises that sell a very limited selection of surfing goods. I've seen boards sell for as cheap as 40,000yen. Are they any good? I have no idea.

Another option is to buy used. My last idea is proably the best. Fly to Australia, Hawaii or Indonesia and buy a board. Seriously, it'll be cheaper than buying a Channel Islands at your nearest Murazaki sports.
