I did find out that my state uni limits age. I'll be 69 in a few weeks and the FAO (Bless his soul!!) said he couldn't renew my cert. My student reviews have all been good, but I wonder what's really at heart here.
Those of us full-timers are paid well. My salary for December was in the (VERY) high 5 figures. The school is bringing in "sea gull lecturers." Having lived on the ocean for some years it occurred to me that seagulls are really quite useless. They fly in, drop a load, make a mess and a lot of noise and then fly away without having made any improvements. |

Could it be that you are working at a joint venture between a western and Chinese university? Are the seagulls those from the western uni who teach a class or two between their attendance at sumptuous banquets and their guided tours to Beijing?
Will you find it convenient to retire in China (with your cute but lazy Chinese significant other) or will you seek employment elsewhere?
Congrats on your high salary and high student evaluations! Any advice for the younger FT's who are hoping for increased shares of both?

It is not enough to be industrious; so are the ants. What are you industrious about? |
