I'm traveling to Indonesia this summer. Has anyone ever brought their dog to Indonesia? Does anyone know a website or source where I can check on fines/regulations for bringing animals into Indonesia?

Thank

I had a dog in Australia who I loved dearly but for her sake I gave her to one of my cousins knowing it would be in a better home than I could provide here. Problems you may face are-

surroundings, there are few parks and noone but the very rich seem to have backyards. this depends of course on where you stay, space is almost unheard of in Jakarta which is where I live

most Indonesians hate dogs as they are considered haram and unclean, I would hate for you to come home from work and find your dog mysteriously gone missing

lack of quality vets due to animals of all kinds not being considered important in most peoples lives

the heat is oppressive and all dogs i've known tend to not like it at all.

If I haven't put you off though read this-

there are no fines for bringing your dog here because it is a matter of allowed entrance, or not allowed entrance. the only real factor(s) is regarding your home countrys' status with rabies.....if you(your dog, actually) do not come from a "rabies free" country, you ( your dog, i mean) can't get in... i am from canada, still not a rabies free country, therefore i can't bring dogs here from there...indo is a rabies free country so bringing dogs the other way is no problem....if you are desperate to get the dog here, some will stop in thailand and have the dog registered there, translate his vaccination records and pedigree certification to thai and for a few extra baht, its done....... you now have a thai based dog and should be allowed entrance....if cust/ imm want to check your dog, he could get held for a few days ( at your expense) in quar.

I brought 2 cats and 2 dogs when I came to Indonesia 6 years ago, and have had no problems at all, apart from the normal pet care issues - and there are some very good vets available.
There are regulations for exit from your country of origin and entry into Indonesia, and it can be expensive.
PM me for further information.

As a reference for others who might read this thread, I found some information at the Indonesian Consulate General of Chicago:

Hope this helps.
