Out of curiosity, will the OP's ethnicity/nationality be a barrier to him/her finding employment? I'm assuming that he/she is non-white.

Well, the OP says he/she is in Singapore for three months, and his/her writing is either that of a native speaker or someone so close that there won't be any distinction. I'm assuming that he/she is from North America, though I could be wrong about that!

I don't know why you assume he/she isn't white, unless I've missed something.

Anyway, to be bluntly honest, brown people may be mistaken for roma, who are not much liked here. Asians are ok, and black people are generally accepted, I think. We have Czechs (through several generations of ancestry) who are both of asian and african descent. In fact, one of our current Czech ski champions is a black Czech woman.

It feels odd to write something so politically incorrect, but it's best to be realistic when contemplating a move to a new country.

The OP says that he/she is a Singapore citizen so I'm assuming he/she is Asian.

I'm curious because I'm half-white, half-Asian and interested in working in CR. I have a BA in English and secondary teaching credentials in English and ESL. No CELTA and not interested in doing one as it would be superfluous. I'm from Australia. How do you rate my chances in finding employment?

Your job prospects are fine.

It's only the visa hassles that will trouble you. There is evidence that non-EU member citizens now have to apply for a working visa from their home countries, after landing a contract in the CR. At worst, it might mean that you come here to get certified, get a contract lined up, and have to go home for 90 days while you wait for your visa.

However, this is NOT a certainty - just the worst-case scenario. You'd need to plan to be flexible - you might be able to start work right away - or you might not...

The OP says he/she is going to be in Singapore for three months. Not that he/she is a citizen. Not that it's important.

OH, sorry - you probably DON'T need additional certification. Ok, so come to sightsee and job hunt. Maybe you will be able to get legal working papers right away, or maybe you'll have to go back to Australia and wait for them.

Hey, when you say people with brown skin, does that include Indians, Middle Easterners and such (ie they can be mistaken for southern Europeans sometimes)? I'm planning to go with my best mate who did the same course as me. She's Indian but born in OZ. Do you think she'll encounter any problems?

And here comes the really shallow but important question: what is the dating scene in Czech like? We had this gorgeous Czech housemate for a few months whom we were head over heels in lust with but alas, he wasn't interested in girls (or maybe he just wasn't interested in us). Sad
