Reading their posts is like not averting your eyes when passing the scene of an accident on the highway! And it's not just a Canadian thing, I'm from Philadelphia!

So in other words, one of your personalities doesn't know when to shut up and the other is just kind of dumb.

Just for the sake of argument/clarification, is there maybe a SEP accredidation that language institutes can get? Is that maybe what dreamon, in all his/her American glory, is talking about? That I could maybe understand, although I don't follow why teachers from accredited schools should get free reign of the buses.

And seriously, dreamon, did you not get the memo? It's not terrifically hip to be from the US of Awesome right now. We're kind of a**hats, globally speaking.

Laughing That was hilarious! I needed a good laugh today. Thanks. Smile

Actually, Mexico is one of few places in the world where being from the US still seems to slightly impress people. That was strange to us when we arrived.

When we lived in Europe, we only spoke Spanish in public, and let everyone guess. They thought we might be some combination of Brazilian, occasionally Mexican, Lebanese, or Moroccan! One guy even thought my husband was from India. But they never guessed we were from the US, and when we told people the truth, they gasped in shock. One even said "But...but you guys are cool and open-minded! I can't believe it!" Thankfully it didn't jeopardize any friendships... Hopefully helped show some folks that not everyone from the US is George Bush.

While I thoroughly despise George Bush and the current American administration, I greatly resent people (especially in Europe) who assume that all Americans are chauvinistic, arrogant idiots who fall into the "Ugly American" mode and mindlessly support whatever their government does. To me, both mindsets deserve to be shot down!

dixie: Thank you for your question. The mission you are reading is from SEP directly. The mission for the school I work for is similar but varies a bit. I think a mission is a goal to strive for, and give us a guideline to work toward. We as teachers are always striving to be better teachers. As far as what schools respect that mission or any other one, will vary I am sure. I sure have seen many as you say that are anything but close to that. SEP varies state to state. Like any political organization, so will the respect for such missions set forth by them.

Guy: Thank you for your kind words. Once again, There is no hole to dig. You have no power over me or anyone else. I am sorry to tell you this, but you obviously left your country for a life in Mexico. Just because you live here or anywhere does not give you power over another person. I will go on, and enjoy my life, and I am sure the school will go on, and all will be fine today, tomorrow or the next year. As far as a picture, I can promise you that you do not have a photo of me. You may have a photo, but it is not me. I am very camera shy, so photos are not out for cirrculation. I am very honored that you asked for a photo of me, and I am am further honored that you have claimed in public to have a photo of me. You must really want to know who I am. So do a few bad guys that are in a very small space for a lot of years because of me. I have not had this much interest since my working days. I think that you should really look in the mirror and realize you are only 1 man, and 1 teacher, and I am sure you do well, but you are not someone who has power over anyone who digs a hole. I know you still have that shovel of yours, you may want to nail it to a wall, and remember that it is only a shovel, just like you are only a man.

sarliz: Yes I think you do understand. Good comments with fair and balanced thinking, except for one thing. Being from the USA is not a fad or a popularity contest. It is a freedom and one we all respect, and it is a country that we love and cherish. Do not confuse politics that come and go with a country. My country is wonderful to me, as your country should be wonderful to you. It is your home, it is your heritage, and it has natural beauty that is a true gift. If I was on this earth for a popularity contest, then I would not be doing what I have done before teaching or now. I am proud to be from the USA and I have served my country with respect and honor. I would be and have been very close to dying for my country. I believe there is no price on the freedom we have. It is because of those freedoms that you have the rights and are able to do what you are doing at this moment. Politics are just a part of who we are. It is not who we stand for or believe in personally. But, we have a choice, and there is no price to high to keep that choice, man or woman.

Kosherpickle: With good reason you share those comments. The only thing I have to address is that I also have spent quite a bit of time in Europe, and I spoke English the entire time, and I never had a single problem. I was treated very well and even though I expected there to be some issues, because I was there during the heat of many issues, there was not one problem. I really was treated so respectful and even treated better than other individuals with other passports from other countries that were traveling with me. I was passed through, spoken to respectfully and I learned a lot about many places and people. I think it is a bit shallow to assume people in Europe are not able to comprehend that politics are politics and people are people. They know the difference. I find most western countries are evolved enough to not judge other people by where they are from due to politics. I will have to remind you that if Europeans are so against the USA, then why did France and Germany vote in Pro Bush presidents? I do not think that people from France or Russia or Germany are at fault for selling missles to Iraq and denying it then being found out later. That is politics, not who people are. I adore the Geman people and I know they respect our country very much as we do theirs. France is more like a bad marriage, but it always seems to come together in the end. Britians are wonderful and ture to themselves. I can go on and on, but I hope this addresses your questions and concerns.
