Not much going on in Nerima, just the usual izakaya-type pubs near the train stations. Ikebukuro, Shinjuku and Shibuya are relatively close and offer much better nightlife. |

Nerima - where do you live in Nerima?
Isn't that a hop-skip-and-a-jump from Seibu Shinjuku or Ikebukaro?
Listen friend, get on the Yamanote line and visit a place called Shibuya. You'll find more what you're looking for there. If that fails, you can go to a place called Rappongi and you can get your kicks there.

Indeed. I'd far rather go to an izakaya with some friends then go to a club any day of the week. |

Imagine someone living close to Nerima Station had to wear a device wrapped around his or her ankle and it would go off if that person ended up somewhere outside of a circle with a 1-km radius and a center at Nerima Station.
And, if the device went off, the person in question would be forced to eat nothing but natto and umeboshi for a year.
Would there be any decent bars or pubs within that circle of 1-km radius that are cool enough to keep our friend free of fermented soy beans and pickled plums? |

Interesting spelling.
Nerima is on the Seibu Ikebukuro line, the Seibu Yurakucho line and the Toei Oedo line. It's only a few stops from Ikebukuro, which is decent. Freakin' Roppongi, as well as Shinjuku, is on the Toei Oedo line. If you have friends in Nerima and take them to Roppongi with you, it's actually doable to take a taxi back home. The Hibiya line connects at Roppongi station, and gives you easy access to Ginza and Ebisu. You can walk to Shibuya from Ebisu in 15 minutes or less, or take the train for an entire 2 minutes.
Nerima isn't a bad place at all. It's relatively cheap as far as living in Tokyo goes, and it has good connections to active places. |

OK, one last crack at it now that I am finally online at home again. I should have been more specific with my post. I'm looking for things to do IN Nerima; not because I don't go out in the hotspots in Tokyo, but because I like having a bar or two in the area to hit up if I'm tired or just finished work. So if anyone out there knows of any places in the area, please feel free to share. Thanks again to everyone ... |

Since you're being specific; do you mean Nerima Ward or the area around Nerima Station?
There are plenty of Japanese bars throughout Nerima Ward. |

Go out in Ikebukuro. Even if you miss the last train a taxi isn't too expensive. |

How about around Nerima Station? Since this thread won't die, I will keep trying, gosh darn it. |

Doesn't look like anyone here knows the area well. Nerima is definitely not the most happening area of Tokyo, anyway, it's suburbia. There will be izakayas all round Nerima station, why not just pick some you like the look of and try them out? |

That's the thing. NO ONE I know that lives in Nerima hangs out there. Everyone I know goes into a more lively part of Tokyo (Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ikebukuro, etc...) even if it's just for basic izakaya (pub) type offerings. |

I wonder......in a city as huge as tokyo, why is it that everyone feels that the big city centres are the only places to hang?
And Nerima suburbia.......not quite; though it is quieter and more local.
Sorry o.p....I live in Nakano, and don't know Nerima too well so I can't help you out.
But to all of you who feel as if Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, and Shibuya are the places to go.......maybe try Kichijoji or Nakameguro....Ebisu.......all are a bit more funky and offer something more than the usual herds walking in a line to the same places.
I can''t stand being in any of the busy city centres unless I have something specific to do there....especially on the weekends. I live in Egota and I really enjoy some of the small little places near my station, exploring is fun and usually very funny.
Good luck in Nerima! |

Thanks everyone. I have determined that there probably aren't many decent hangouts in Nerima city unless I just get out there and look for myself. It's true most people prefer the big areas ... it makes me long for Niigata, where you could find several "Cheers" type places which were good for mixing, convo and drinking.
Anyway, appreciate all the suggestions. If I find a secret watering hole, I will let you know. |
