|
|
I'm just wondering if anyone could answer this question - maybe someone working at HCT.
On average how many years of experience does a typical ESL teacher have when working at HCT? When they hire, I know the minimum is 3 years, but what is the average of all the hired teachers? I know this might be difficult to calculate, but a ball park figure would be okay with me.
Thanks for any help |

Hi
According to the HR lady at the HCT Information session held in Tesol Arabia 2008 a few weeks ago - it is two terms/contracts which is 6 years. This may depend on location longer/shorter.

I'd agree with L2A's figure - very roughly speaking. I know some people who started with the minimum of 3, some people with well over 10 years' experience, and some at all points in between. |

One possible way to answer this question is exactly how Nadia answered it. And you had already pointed out that your 'average' was just a guess as you hadn't asked everyone.
Giving one number as a guess is just as useless as pointing out that there is a range... perhaps the problem is with the way that the question is stated.
It certainly managed to cause lots of confusion...

hey offwhite - Most of the colleagues i work with had many more years of ESL and other teaching experience than the 3 year "minimum" that HCT asks for. HCT is taking people on fresh from grad school with little or no experience. The masters degree doesnt seem as compulsory as it used to be either, so I wouldn't let a lack of experience or qualifications put you off from applying. |

Err...I was agreeing with you, Liketoanswer! And then adding some extra information. Sorry if I seemed like I was contradicting you. |
